This is one of the most common questions we hear after an anomaly or growth scan 👇
👉 “Doctor, why is baby height not mentioned in the report?”
Here’s the simple reason:
During the scan, the baby is usually in a curled position,
so measuring the full length (height) accurately is not possible ❌
Instead, we measure:
✔️ Head size
✔️ Abdomen (tummy) size
✔️ Thigh bone length
Using these, we calculate the baby’s estimated weight
👉 If the weight is appropriate for the gestational age, it means your baby’s growth is normal ✅
So don’t worry if you don’t see “height” in your report 😊

3. An Anomaly scan (target scan or TIFFA scan): Done between 18 and 22 weeks to identify any major structural abnormalities in the baby.
4. Growth scan, also called as Biophysical profile scan done between 28 weeks and 37 weeks of Pregnancy. Growth scans Checks the baby’s growth, weight, position, and liquor volume.
