The longstanding belief that athleticism ends with motherhood has been put to rest as athlete-mothers time and again prove otherwise.

✨The world’s most competitive marathoners can still perform at their best after pregnancy.

This is such a great study!
➡️They found a large part of the cohort succeeding in coming back to the international level, and further outweigh their personal best after the maternity break. Thus, pregnancy may not increase the likelihood of prematurely ending a successful runner career.

It is also essential to acknowledge that every pregnancy and athlete is highly unique. Having a flexible, adaptable plan developed by a multi-disciplinary team with the athlete voice at its center is essential to success.

Happy International Runners Day! 🏃‍♀️

Help us learn more about the power of movement during pregnancy! 💪💚
The 7 stage framework for postpartum recognizes that recovery isn’t linear, and that returning to movement, training, sport, and performance are all different stages.

One size does not fit all.

Every athlete’s recovery is unique. Sleep, feeding, pelvic floor health, mental health, healing, energy levels, and life demands all influence the path forward.

The goal isn’t simply getting cleared.

The goal is helping women move through each stage with the support, information, and confidence they deserve.

Because postpartum athletes deserve more than a 6-week check-up.

I’m happy to share this table, let me know if you want it.
If you work with women in sport, (or pregnant women in general) these are stats worth knowing 👆

Pregnancy is not an injury. And for most women, movement during pregnancy is not only safe, it’s beneficial.

Chances are that you will see pregnant women who have mental health concerns, pelvic floor, concerns, exercise, safety concerns … which can impact their health, and performance during pregnancy, and later during postpartum.

Research is here to support you, so you don’t have to rely on outdated expert opinions. We’re trying to reduce fear and anxiety by providing evidence-based information.

Which one of these stats stands out to you the most? Tell me below ⬇️

Please share this widely, the more people who know, the more we change the fear around exercise and pregnancy. 💕🙏🏼

Thank you for sharing our research on pregnancy and postpartum!

✨ The more we talk about the evidence and research that supports physical activity, the closer we get to changing the fear based narrative around it. ✨

I’m so proud of our team for creating the research and guidance to support mother athletes around the world with evidence, so they don’t have to rely on outdated expert opinions.

The NWSL has 28 active mothers rostered this season - a record number. The figure represents a shift in support and understanding around pregnancy, postpartum and parenting.

For players returning to play after pregnancy, and explore:
◽️ The pressure of someone else’s timeline
◽️ Recovery starts before giving birth
◽️ Screening, education and myth busting
These positive previous reports, although underpowered, suggest that individuals with multifetal pregnancy can benefit from maintaining physical activity during
gestation.
Our data support that many individuals with multifetal pregnancies do engage with prenatal physical activity, but that significant barriers and considerations for activity
prescription exist for this population.

Photo dump from the Growing through the Game Conference in Oslo Norway!

It was incredible to reunite with the FIFA Reproductive Health Research Team at the Growing through the Game Conference in Oslo, Norway. I’m leaving feeling so inspired! ✨

There is nothing quite like connecting with old friends (and making new ones) in person rather than from behind a screen. I have to take a moment to appreciate how truly amazing it is to work with Sinead, Emma and Ivi! We’ve been deep in the details of the “Stay in Play” and “Stepping into Play” frameworks, working hard to ensure players are supported, protected, and empowered through pregnancy and their postpartum return to the pitch. ⚽️💪

It was such a pleasure to celebrate the closing of this chapter together. I am so proud of what we’ve accomplished and excited for what comes next!
