And then the rain came.
A little sailing story…
We pulled anchor off of DeCourcey Island, hoisted the sails and headed towards Gabriola Passage to make it through at slack tide.
We had time to sail our way there, so we tacked our way across the channel weaving our way through prawn boats laying lines of traps and a tug boat arranging a fresh log boom.
The sky turned broody and dark and we watched as a bruised rain cloud drew near.
I sat at the bow of our sailboat, camera pointed towards those white sails contrasted against the moody sky and took these photos.
The storm blew through as quickly as it came and the sun returned as we made our way through the small passage between Gabriola and Valdez Islands.
We pulled into our anchorage for the night, dropped anchor and called a new depth of water our home for the night.
Finding a reason to share online has become harder and harder for me these days, so I share these photos simply because I want to. Because I want to share the small stories and photos of what I love in life. Not to give tips, to promote or sell…only to share with you. 💙
This is a piece of my life that I love. ⛵️
I love the colours (especially the blues!)
I love the tile that is an art form in its own right.
I love the doorways, the alleys, the cafes on every corner.
I love the way the trams make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.
I love that there is a castle atop the hill.
I love the small of the sea air that you catch on the wind.
I love the food! All of it!
This was my second visit to Lisbon and I loved it just as much as the first time.
It’s so uniquely Lisboa!!

This fjord cuts deep into the BC coast and is only accessible by boat or seaplane. There are no roads, no cars, no cell service…just glacier fed waterfalls, soaring mountains, and pristine nature.
It’s a favourite sailing destination for us and every time we go we are reminded of just how beautiful BC is.

Nestled at the northern tip of the famous “Sunshine Coast” of British Columbia, Desolation Sound is a boater’s paradise.
Hidden coves, exceptionally warm water for swimming, soaring mountain views and a place to drop anchor, watch the sunset, cozy up with a book and stay for a while.
The waters between Vancouver Island and the mainland of BC are dotted with islands and strings of archipelagos ranging from the southern reaches of our border to the northern tip of the island.
I am privileged to spend our sailing season wandering and exploring these islands on our sailboat Sakana. Our simple 30’ floating home weaves us through the passages to find quiet anchorages nestled at the base of mountains.
So, let me send you these virtual postcards from one of these rugged and scenic island archipelagos: Desolation Sound.

Landscapes deserve to be showcased the way our eyes naturally view them. In full wide format.
And landscape photos at sea on a sailboat especially need the scale that only a wide angle can give.
Sometimes it’s to show the scale of a tiny sailboat set against the contrast of a vast sea and mountains or to show full crisp sails out on a broad reach against an expansive blue sea.
Phones screens and social media apps have trained us to take most of our pictures in a vertical format. And I understand why: it’s fills our screen nicely, means we don’t have to rotate our phone and fits the predetermined size social media has deemed desirable.
But sometimes you gotta break the “rules”
So these are some of my sailing photos that I refuse to crop to a vertical format because they need room to breathe…

Restaurants with tortilla ovens at the door
Hidden courtyards hiding behind unassuming front doors
All surrounded by volcanos in the distance
Antigua was a place where I felt incredibly peaceful and welcomed and these were some of the moments that captured how I felt.
Definitely a Tofino thing!
Tofino in winter might be my new fav thing! No crowds, cheaper room rates, surfing at sunset vibes and cozy nights by the fire. A perfect winter getaway!
