1. Tanning beds â major UV damage, accelerates aging + increases skin cancer risk
2. A âpimpleâ that wonât heal â could be something more serious, like skin cancer
3. âSunscreen is toxicâ â skipping SPF leads to preventable sun damage and pigmentation, and increases the risk of skin cancer
4. Blue-black discoloration from hydroquinone misuse â Ochronosis (blue-black discoloration) is a side effect of hydroquinone, especially if misused for a long time without taking a break. It is very difficult to treat! Please use hydroquinone under the guidance of a dermatologist.
5. Walking barefoot in public pools/locker rooms â increased risk of getting warts or athleteâs foot

Love this routine for aging hands and arms đ
Sunscreen is key for prevention, and retinol helps improve brown spots, fine lines, and crepey skin. If you already use a retinol for your face, you can absolutely use it on your hands and armsâor go with an affordable option like a retinol body lotion from gold bond.
For sun protection, aim for SPF 30+ which blocks around 97% of the sunâs UVB. Higher SPFs like 100 can give a bit more (block around 99% of the sunâs UVB), especially if youâre outdoors for longer periods. Whether you use SPF 30 or SPF 100, reapplication is key (every 2 hours on average) especially when youâre out for a long time. And honestly, UPF sleeves are my go-tos for the armsâeasy to wear and consistent protection all day.
Overall, a solid, derm-approved routine!!

2. Picotoning + brightening serums. Picotoning helps fade my subtle sun spots with zero downtimeâI maintain with brightening serums like thiamidol, vitamin c, etc and of course, strict sun protection.
3. Finding my retinoid rhythm. Slowly reintroducing Arazlo postpartum (2x/week) and alternating with a retinal + Matrixyl 3000 on other nights. It is totally OK to not be able to tolerate rx retinoid every night. Most people canât! Just be consistent to see the results.
4. In-office skin tightening. I see this as an investment in aging gracefully and maintaining a youthful lookâalways best tailored by a dermatologist.
5. Lip care for plump lips! HA serum + a petrolatum-based ointment keeps my lips hydrated and plump. Add a little lip flip & itâs perfection. I havenât had lip filler in 3+ years.
6. At-home devices as support. Great as an add-on, but not a replacement for in-office treatments.
7. Subtle botox. My favorite ways to use: baby botox for frown lines and crowâs feet, lip flip, and Nefertiti lift for a soft, natural lift.
8. Daily SPFânon-negotiable. The most important step for preventing premature aging.
9. Exercise & Healthy diet. 5 months postpartum and feeling strong, energized, and back to my baseline.

-Minoxidil (topical or oral)âšBest evidence. Helps prolong the growth phase and increase hair density. Topical is first-line; low-dose oral (which works really well btw) can be an option under the guidance of your dermatologist.
-BiotinâšOnly helpful if youâre deficient in biotin, which is very uncommon (most people get enough from their diet). Not a go-to hair loss treatment.
-LED helmets (low-level light therapy)âšModerate evidence. Can support hair growth and density with consistent use over time. Great alternative for those who do not or cannot use topical or oral minoxidil.
-Rosemary oilâšNot as thoroughly researched as minoxidil. Few small studies show that it may help when compared to 2% minoxidil but likely a very mild benefit. Also, some people can get irritation from it. Not my go-to option.
-Pumpkin seed oil (oral)âšLimited but promising data. May help with androgen-related hair loss by reducing the hormone responsible for androgenetic hair loss, but more research is needed.
-Ketoconazole shampoos (like Nizoral)
some evidence for supporting hair growth by reducing inflammation and androgen effectsâbut think of it as an add-on, not a primary treatment. Helpful for scalp health, but not a replacement for proven options like minoxidil.
-Caffeine shampooâšMinimal evidence. May temporarily stimulate follicles, but it is a very short-contact topical shampoo so unlikely to significantly impact hair growth on its own.
Bottom line: stick with evidence-based treatments like minoxidil first, and consider adjuncts if you want to build a routine.

Sunsticks are greatâbut think of them as a reapplication tool, NOT your primary SPF.
To get decent coverage, you need MULTIPLE passes (aim for 4 passes) over each area to get closer to adequate coverage. One swipe definitely isnât enough and delivers far less than the labeled SPF.
Use firm, even pressure and go over high-risk areas like the cheeks, nose, forehead, and neck multiple times. And donât forgetâreapply every 2 hours, especially with sun exposure. Bottom line: liquid sunscreen first, sunstick for easy, on-the-go touch-ups.

Pimple patchesâalso called hydrocolloid patchesâare great for stopping you from picking and work best on pimples that are already open, like ones you may have accidentally popped. But theyâre not effective for every type of acne.
For consistent improvement in acne, try ingredients like a 4â5% benzoyl peroxide wash (like PanOxyl), salicylic acid serum/wash or Differin gel (adapalene 0.1%), which is an over-the-counter retinoid. You can pair these actives with soothing serums with niacinamide and centella, and hydrating moisturizers with hyaluronic acid and ceramides to support your skin barrier. Just keep in mindâmany acne treatments can be drying, so make sure youâre moisturizing well to protect your skin barrier.

When picking eye creams, itâs important to know what problem we are trying to solve.
âšDarkness, hyperpigmentation: if there is actual pigment issue, look for eye creams with vitamin C, niacinamide, etc. You can also try retinol ones as long as they are not irritating. Avoid rubbing around the eyes since constant friction can cause hyperpigmentation.
âšBluish/vascular, thin skin: If darkness is due underlying vessel and thin eyelid skin, look for eye creams with caffeine! If there is a metal tip, you can put it in the fridge to make it cold and use.
âšWrinkles/fine lines: look for retinol, peptides, collagen. It is ok to use rye creams with retinol or retinal, but start off few time a week and gradually increase to avoid irritation.

â Losing ~100 hairs per day is normal
â If you have dandruff, it can also lead to hair loss: You want to massage dandruff shampoo into the scalp and leave it on for 3 min before washing off. I recommend conditioner after so that your hair doesnât feel dry. Typically recommend dandruff shampoo 1-2 times per week for maintenance.
â If you have oily scalp or you sweat everyday: it is OK to wash every day. You can also use exfoliating shampoo or scrub few times a month.
â If you have dry, damaged or overly-processed hair OR coarser hair, avoid shampoos with sulfates. Can wash 2-3x per week
â Find out the type of hair loss youâre having. Minoxidil 5% is still our favorite OTC option for female or male pattern hair loss.
