• Before – living with heaviness, pain, and a body that never felt like mine.
• Lower legs – 6.4 litres removed. The first time I felt what “light” actually means.
• Upper front legs – 7.2 litres removed. Suddenly I could move differently.
• Upper back legs – 7.1 litres removed. And everything finally began to change.
This transformation is more than physical. It’s the first time in years I’ve seen myself without the weight of a condition I didn’t even know I had for most of my life.

I feel like I’ve been a literal poster child for this condition. En pantorrillas sigo teniendo lipedema, en muslos ya no.
¿Vuelve a salir después de operarse? Lo más normal es que el lipedema siga desarrollándose en las zonas afectadas, en mi caso, en pantorrillas y brazos. Será mucho más complicado que vuelva a aparecer en la zona donde se ha eliminado con cirugía.
Siento que estoy a mitad de operar, ya que esta cirugía no se puede hacer en piernas completas, sino que se hace en dos cirugías diferentes. Se suele empezar por la zona que más problemas te da, tanto dolor físico como complejo estético.

Making the decision to travel to the other side of the world for surgery was one of the scariest things I’ve done, but I have absolutely no regrets. I don’t even recognise the lower legs in my old photos. It’s mind blowing to see how much the lipedema fat has obscured the shape (or lack of) in my legs, and hidden the muscle and the results of years of work building muscle in the gym that never seemed to result in any changes.
It’s hard to believe that at the beginning of 2024 I’d never even heard the word “lipedema”. The diagnosis and subsequent surgery have been life changing and I’m so excited to complete my leg and arm surgeries this year.
To everyone who has been part of this rollercoaster journey so far, thank you so much. My husband, friends, family, support people and the wonderful online community - you’re all incredible and I’m so grateful for every one of you 💕
