1,200+ applicants from 70+ countries. 101 admitted. And only 74% of those admitted companies graduated — meaning Nodal is among just 6.1% of all applicants to successfully complete the program. That number stopped me in my tracks.

When I started in reproductive endocrinology, I wasn’t thinking about awards. I was thinking about the couples in front of me — the ones who’d been told no, who’d run out of options, who needed someone willing to keep looking.

I got into medicine because I wanted to help people build families. Not for awards. Not for recognition. For the moments in the consult room that no one else sees.
But this Pathmaker Award from Families Out Loud stops me in my tracks — because it asks me to reflect on the path itself.
In 2016, I helped build of New York because I believed that world-class laboratory science shouldn’t only exist in one zip code. In 2021, I founded because I believed that surrogacy — one of the most profound journeys a family can take — deserved to be ethical, equitable, and transparent. Not opaque. Not exploitative. Not reserved for those with the right connections.
Every day since, I have fought — sometimes quietly, sometimes loudly — to make this field more accessible, more honest, and more humane.
None of it happens alone. I am forever grateful for the extraordinary colleagues who have walked this path with me — in the clinic, on my teams, and across this industry. You know who you are.
And to and — thank you for creating something so beautiful and so necessary with. A community dedicated to supporting every family on their unique path to parenthood, Families Out Loud, is exactly the kind of work this world needs more of.

I’ve known Ted for over 15 years — as a consultant, a business partner, and a friend. So when he called me late one October evening in 2018, I could hear the worry in his voice. He was telling me about his son Steven’s situation secondhand, and something immediately felt off. I told Ted to give Steven my cell.
Steven called within minutes. Two days later, he and his wife were in my office in New York City.
I remember that consult vividly. of New York was still in its early days, and I was still learning how to do one of the hardest things in medicine — resetting a couple’s expectations and understanding of their fertility without undermining the work of the doctors who came before me. What I told Steven that day was simple: I’m a better doctor than I am a businessman, and I didn’t think they needed to rush into treatment. They needed a thorough workup and a calendar. That’s it.
Fast forward nearly eight years to 2026, and I was forwarded the video below.
During COVID, Steven became a well-respected TikTok creator under — a comedic account about parenting humor, modern fatherhood, nostalgic pop culture, and real life. He’s turned a fun hobby into a real business, and even convinced celebrities like The Fray and Landon Barker to join him in their own bathrooms for quick collabs.
But what matters most? Steven is the proud father of four beautiful children.
I think about his family often — not because of what they endured, but because their story is a reminder of why I do this work. Sometimes the most powerful thing a doctor can do is slow down, listen, and let discovery and education do what expensive treatments never needed to.
Have you heard the rumor that a post-transfer trip to the Golden Arches is the secret to IVF success? It’s one of the most popular superstitions in the fertility community: eat salty French fries immediately after your Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET), and you’ll boost your chances of implantation.
But is there any science behind the salt?

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦? The myth likely started from real medical advice given to patients at risk of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS). Doctors often recommend increasing salt intake to help manage fluid retention. Over time, this medical tip morphed into a generalized fertility “hack.”
The Reality Check While we hate to be the bearer of bad news, there is absolutely zero scientific evidence that eating French fries—or any specific fast food—improves embryo implantation or success rates. The salt and fat won’t magically help the embryo stick. But progesterone 💉 injections (as pictured above) definitely do improve outcomes.
So, should you skip the drive-thru? Not necessarily! While fries aren’t a fertility superfood, the IVF journey is tough, emotional, and exhausting. If indulging in some salty, crispy comfort food helps you relax and brings you a moment of joy during the dreaded Two Week Wait, then go for it! Just know that it’s for your soul, not your uterus. 😉
Success relies on your medical team, your protocol, and a whole lot of science —not the fryer.
