Since then, I’ve had many a moment of wondering similar things especially in recent years as a large-scale collapse of the world and natural order seems to be slowly unfolding. I’ve felt apathy and despair about this, but as I read this book, I found that a type of courage took hold of me — and a relief — that all these things I was thinking and feeling, all these worries — were shared.
I am also grateful to not be given neat answers or to be exhorted to prep, but to instead be left in the liminality of wondering with the simple injunction to become a brave adult, and someone who can carry their humanity through collapse.
Lots to ponder and lots to shift and change — but recommend this book for anyone struggling with the world as it is.

It sits at the heart of most things that hurt.
A few gentle messages on this day for those who have not experienced consistent warmth, safety and love through the mothering they received as children.
Go softly.

Statistically, Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) remains one of the most prevalent challenges facing allied health and medical professionals today.
Most allied health clinicians receive minimal training in intimate partner violence, often leaving them with only a ‘one-size-fits-all’ framework based on the Duluth model. This approach frequently struggles to address the complex realities of clinical practice, as it lacks a nuanced psychological analysis of the risk factors driving perpetration and provides limited guidance on effective interventions for those who use violence.
In this webinar, I shift the focus toward a more sophisticated and evidence-based understanding of violence.
Based on my dual expertise in clinical and forensic psychology and work with both perpetrators and victim-survivors, this webinar focuses on:
* The Forensic Lens: Understanding the psychosocial trajectories of those who harm and the forensic principles required to work with them safely and effectively.
*
* Beyond the Binary: Moving past outdated power-and-control models to understand IPV across all relationship structures.
*
* Treatment Innovation: Exploring comprehensive approaches and principles for both victim-survivors and perpetrators.
*
* Practical Mastery: Learning to identify covert abuse patterns, such as stalking, technologically facilitated abuse, and mastering safety planning approaches.
*
What you’ll take away:
* An overview of legislation.
*
* Skills in nuanced risk screening for serious violence.
*
* Frameworks for navigating the complexities of perpetrator treatment.
*
* Tools for understanding the psychological needs of victim-survivors, and ways to facilitate long-term, psychological change.
*
* An understanding of counter transferential dynamics and vicarious trauma responses.

HOW WE RELATE: a psychologist’s guide to building and maintaining good relationships
In How We Relate, Dr. Ahona Guha takes us on an illuminating journey through the psychology of human connection. Drawing from her many years of clinical experience, she reveals how our earliest relationships shape every connection we form — from family and friendships to romance and work.
How do childhood blueprints influence adult behaviours? Why do some friendships fail while others flourish? What makes the difference between healthy and toxic dynamics? With warmth and practical insight, Guha explores the hidden patterns that govern our interactions, offering concrete strategies for breaking free from destructive cycles. How We Relate is your guide to building the meaningful connections you deserve.
A note from the author:
‘How We Relate is a course of therapy packed into a book. I wrote it to highlight the ways our earliest patterns and experiences shape all our relationships; intimate and platonic, personal and professional, and to cut through the noise and misinformation surrounding our understanding of relational patterns.’
