The golden rule: one pea-sized amount. Not more, not less.
A pea is enough for your entire face—forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. Dot it evenly, then gently spread a thin layer.
Why it’s worth it: Retinoids boost cell turnover, stimulate collagen, smooth fine lines, unclog pores, and help fade dark spots and acne over time. With consistent use, they improve skin texture, tone, and overall clarity—making them one of the most dermatologist-trusted ingredients for long-term skin health.
More product ≠ faster results. It only means more irritation.
Consistency, patience, and the right amount are what get you that glow

This patient came to me bothered by a hyperpigmented scar that had become something he noticed every single day.
The reality is that scars can affect more than just appearance. They can influence how you show up in the world, whether that means avoiding photos, feeling self-conscious in conversations, or simply not feeling like the best version of yourself.
One of the things I love most about cosmetic dermatology is helping patients feel more confident in their skin. Hyperpigmented scars can often improve significantly with the right treatment plan, but just as importantly, confidence can too. In this case we did 4 treatments with a fractionated resurfacing laser, customized skincare plan, and switched to tinted sunscreen (which he used diligently).

Skincare can be overwhelming, and so I try to make things as easy as possible for my patients which ultimately helps make it easier to keep up with. So if you don’t have a neck cream, don’t stress: drag your skincare down to neck and chest so it can benefit from the antioxidants, moisturizers and retinol you’re already doing on the face. And please, please, please don’t forget the SPF as well.
Special thanks to and for sparking this conversation with this hilarious clip from the. 🧡

Dermatologist shares how to make your existing skincare routine work smarter, not harder.
If you struggle with acne marks, hyperpigmentation, or “dark spots” that seem to linger forever… your sunscreen may be part of the problem.
As a dermatologist, one of the biggest switches I recommend is moving from a regular sunscreen to a tinted sunscreen. Here’s why: visible light, especially blue light, can worsen pigmentation and keep dark marks around longer, particularly in deeper skin tones.
While traditional sunscreens mainly protect against UV rays, tinted sunscreens with iron oxides provide added protection against visible light, helping prevent acne marks from getting darker and more stubborn over time.
Think of tinted sunscreen as skincare, treatment, and protection all in one. It helps shield your skin from further discoloration while giving the complexion a more even appearance without feeling like heavy makeup.
If you’re investing in brightening products but skipping tinted SPF, you may be slowing your progress without realizing it. Daily consistency matters more than perfection.

As a dermatologist, I always remind patients that neck care doesn’t have to be complicated. You can use products specifically formulated for the neck like Neck Correct Cream, Smart Clinical Repair Lifting Face + Neck Cream, Triple Firming Neck Cream, Skincare Nectifirm ADVANCED, or Derm Correxion Firming Stick — but you also don’t necessarily need a completely separate routine.
One of my favorite easy tips: when applying your nighttime retinoid, take whatever residual product is left on your fingertips and gently drag it down onto the neck. The same goes for serums and moisturizers. Small habits done consistently make a big difference over time.
And most importantly: sunscreen. Daily SPF on the neck is non-negotiable if you want to prevent pigmentation, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity. Don’t spend all your energy treating the face while forgetting the neck 🧡

Here’s what I recommend to my patients:
✨ Daily SPF — non-negotiable. UV exposure breaks down collagen faster than anything else. A broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every single day is the foundation of wrinkle prevention.
✨ Start a retinoid at night. Prescription tretinoin or over-the-counter retinol stimulates collagen production and improves fine lines over time. Think long game — results build over 3–6 months.
✨ Add antioxidants in the morning. Vitamin C serums help neutralize free radicals and support brighter, firmer-looking skin.
✨ Hydration matters more than you think. Hyaluronic acid and barrier-repair moisturizers plump the appearance of fine lines instantly and protect your skin long term.
Bonus: A moisturizer formulated with peptides can help support collagen and elastin, enhancing firmness and complementing your retinoid results.
✨ In-office options (no neurotoxins required). Treatments like microneedling, radiofrequency, and fractional laser can stimulate collagen remodeling naturally.
Botox relaxes muscle movement. These strategies rebuild and protect the skin itself. Different tools — different goals.

✨ 1. Go for a tinted mineral.
The tint helps reduce white cast on brown or Black skin and can also protect against hyperpigmentation. Here are some that I have in my rotation currently. I also like and which are affordable options as well.
💧 2. Moisturize first.
I always get a smoother blend when my skin is moisturized vs. dry.
🔥 3. Warm it up in your hands (5-10 seconds).
This makes it way easier to apply and blend evenly.
It’s not a perfect science, but with these 3 steps, I’m able to wear mineral sunscreen every single day.
