In my opinion one of the most difficult treatments in restorative dentistry- to match a single central tooth with ceramics or composite! 😬
I enjoyed helping this patient improve her smile for her big day. She wanted to improve the appearance of the previously root treated UL1 in the least invasive way. Ceramics was not an option as she did not want any further tooth preparation.

So composite it is-Initially I removed some of the overlying labial composite and then carried out internal bleaching with 16% CP
the shade improved to an extent but didn’t fully match the adjacent teeth so we had to accept the base shade.
I then removed the old composite and replaced with bi1 dentine, layered translucency with transopal and azure tint with final layer of SN composite for the enamel layer.
Then finial finishing and polishing to try and match the UR1 as close as possible.
The patient couldn’t believe how much better the new composite looked 🙂

FRESH!
6 month review of one of my favourite cases from 2025! A nice transformation for this wonderful patient whom we treated with a combination of Invisalign, teeth whitening, composite restorations, multiple molar re- root canal treatments and finished with crowns, veneers and onlays! The patient is taking a break and then considering a couple of posterior implants later this year to improve posterior support.

A beautifully executed space-closure composite case by Dr Tariq Bashir, demonstrating how thoughtful technique and material choice can deliver excellent aesthetics without tooth preparation.

It was a pleasure to help a young girl recently restore her smile. Previous trauma as a young child had caused deviltailsation and discolouration of this tooth. Her dentist had referred to me to help with recreating a natural restoration to replace the UL1.
First we carried out internal bleaching and external bleaching with and then finished with creating a natural composite restiration to mimic UR1 using various composite shades and tints to layer this restiration giving it depth. Finished with usual protocol of Venus supra polishers and enamelise.

This patient had lived for many years with a heavily discoloured UL1 and a poorly contoured composite on UR1, which affected her confidence.
Dr Tariq Bashir began by renewing the root canal on UL1, followed by 16% CP internal bleaching for 7 days and external bleaching with 10% CP gel overnight for 3 weeks. The final refinements were made using Inspiro Composite to achieve a natural match with the central incisors.
Shade Bi1 was used to replace dentine, SN for enamel with subtle white tints, and the laterals and canine edges were re-contoured using only enamel shade SN.
The result? A seamless, natural blend – and a patient who was absolutely over the moon with her new smile.
This case shows how effective bleaching combined with precision composite artistry using Inspiro composite can be, without the need for a crown.

Great to catch up with so many old friends last night!
Can’t believe we qualified 20 years ago! 😅
This lovely patient was referred to me to treat the severe wear affecting all of the upper teeth. I started by assessing the smile parameters and then recorded his CR bite position using a Kois Deprogrammer. A wax up then made by and some stents to guide me, especially for the posterior dentition. (Tips from ).
After whitening I bonded the upper anterior teeth and used Venus Pearl for the dentine shades and layered with for the enamel shades. The posterior teeth were then built into the preset occlusion-Venus pearl used for the posteriors.
Lower posterior worn molars and premolars also added to.
- Phase 1 now complete. 6 mth review due soon and then I can ask our orthodontist to carry out phase 2. Phase 3 will be to convert the upper arch to ceramics after ortho extrusion and likely some crown lengthening anteriorly.
Will update as we progress with this case. The patient can’t believe the change in his smile and confidence already.

A nice case we finished for a lovely patient recently.
We started with Invisalign to align the anterior teeth and reposition the UR side premolars to camouflage the missing UR canine and correct the midline. After Invisalign we carried out some and then finished off with 4 beautiful emax veneers and edge bonding on 2 teeth. UR4/2/1 and UL1 were the veneers and UL2/3 composite edge bonding to match the veneers.
These cases where we have different materials adjacent to each other and need everything to blend seamlessly are the most difficult. Lots of checks and measurements are carried out to ensure the final result is harmonious with the patients facial features. 👨🏻🎨📐

Beautiful Bosnia 🇧🇦
Throwback to some memories from our trip to beautiful Bosnia last month. A country with a sad past with the genocide in Srebnerica to metropolitan Sarajevo to some truly outstanding and breathtaking natural beauty at Travnik, Konjic and Mostar. Honestly the county is like one big nature reserve! I’m not a big coffee drinker but the coffee was 👌

Great to be able to help this young boy who had a traumatic sports injury to his front tooth. This was repaired by his own dentist but the young patient was very self conscious and wouldn’t smile so was referred to our clinic. I stripped off the old composite, cleaned and prepared the remaining tooth structure and layered with shades SN, bi1, azure and ice tints with with SN composite and then finished by adding secondary tertiary anatomy to match the adjacent tooth and finally some light polishing. Now we await review for final finishing and polishing. This young 13th year old boy and his family were amazed at how seamless it now looked. Glad we could help, best part of my job- being creative and changing patients lives. Matching (or trying) single centrals with composite is probably my favourite treatment 😌
