The rules:
1. You must use 400g (14oz) of extra firm tofu.
2. It cannot be pressed.
3. No seasonings or sauces.
4. No beverages to wash it down.
5. Timer must be in view the whole time.

Next, I nominate:

PS. I have now seen that did it in less than 3 minutes… 🤯

This influencer, newsnotnoise (can’t tag because I’m blocked), attempted to debunk our latest seed oil paper, but fails to provide any real substantive arguments. But that’s not the point of this video.

She publicly agreed to discuss with me in a comment under the video, but when it came to actually scheduling, she ghosted and then blocked me.

This type of behaviour is all too common. So many people on here claim to be willing to discuss with those who hold opposing viewpoints, but then quietly back out when their followers don’t see it. You can probably guess who some of the worst offenders are.

If you aren’t interested in discussing or aren’t comfortable with live discussions/debates, just say that. The lying/posturing just screams “GRIFTER.”

Another day, another video of fear mongering over “ingredients.”

Modified wheat starch: He provides zero evidence it’s harmful. It’s simply wheat starch altered to improve things like texture, flexibility, or stability in foods.

Pea protein: Pea protein has been shown to support muscle and strength gains similarly to animal protein. So if pea protein is “weak sauce,” I guess animal protein is too.

Vital wheat gluten: Literally more protein. Unless someone has celiac disease or a gluten-sensitivity, there’s no good reason to avoid it.

Hydrogenated oils: He confused fully hydrogenated/interesterified oils with partially hydrogenated oils. The concern was trans fats from partially hydrogenated oils, which have largely been removed from the food supply. Fully hydrogenated oils are not significant sources of trans fats.

Sodium pyrophosphate (“too much phosphorus”): Phosphorus is literally an essential nutrient. The adult upper limit is around 4000 mg/day, while phosphorus additives in foods often contribute tiny amounts by comparison.

Cellulose gum: Again, no evidence of harm presented. And if he’s referring to the study people often cite, the doses used were dramatically higher than what’s added to foods.
“My grandmother wouldn’t recognize these ingredients”

Ingredient names sounding “chemical” is not evidence that something is harmful.

Vegans are apparently unhealthy according to this guy, despite them having a 23% lower risk of cancer and an 18% lower risk of ischemic heart disease; 2 of the leading killers…. What does that make meat eaters? The walking dead?

He also claims we can’t get retinol (vitamin A), but we can actually easily make enough retinol by converting carotenoids from plant foods like carrots, sweet potatoes, and greens. And yes, that includes people with impaired conversion, with very few exceptions where a supplement can be considered.

After having one of the worst records in the, the said they’re getting rid of seed oils at their training facility. Because, of course, the reason the reason (or one of the reasons) the team was bad was…seed oils...

But in all seriousness, there’s just no good evidence that seed oils negatively impact athletic performance. And before anybody claims that they cause inflammation and that impacts muscle recovery or something, that’s just not true. Numerous randomized controlled trials have looked at this topic and failed to see a rise in inflammatory markers.

Now, the irony in this statement is that, from 2017 to 2019, a bunch of the players went plant-based, and had meals prepared by plant-based chef, who uses seed oils in some of her recipes… and in the 2019 season the team made it to the AFC championship game for the first time in 17 years, which they haven’t done since.

Now, I’m not saying if they go back to plant-based eating and include seed oils they’re suddenly going to be amazing based on this anecdote. We don’t do that around here. But it is pretty funny.

Fab conversation with Dr Matt Nagra about protein quality as a plant based advocate and misconceptions about protein for vegetarians and vegans. We also talked about choline (high in animal products) and if the low intake is really an issue for plant based peeps. Love discussing with people who challenge my beliefs. This is how we grow 🙌

What happens when algorithmic feeds transform nutrition science into tribal warfare?

This week on the pod, I'm joined by, naturopathic doctor and nutrition researcher who's made it his mission to combat the misinformation that has deranged our dietary discourse.

Seed oils are demonized while butter is celebrated. Plant proteins dismissed as inferior. LDL denialism masquerades as science. Matt dismantles these misconceptions, revealing how cherry-picked studies have replaced rigorous research.

The truth is far more nuanced than the algorithms would have you believe.

Steak and Butter Gal (can’t tag her since she pre-emptively blocked me before I ever even made content about her) was on ’s recent “vegan vs. meat eaters” debate and made numerous false and/or unfounded claims, including that soy “really ruins your hormones.”

Well, we have one recent systematic review and meta-analysis of 40 randomized controlled trials, including 3285 women and they did not identify a significant effect on any measure of estrogenicity, including estrogen levels, other hormones, and endometrial thickness. Also, a similar meta-analysis including studies on men did not identify any notable changes in estrogen or testosterone levels. So, that definitely doesn’t support the claim that soy “really ruins your hormones.”

Plus, long-term soy consumption has been associated with a REDUCTION in breast cancer and prostate cancer risk, as well as lower risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. So... she’s just making stuff up here.

PS. She definitely didn’t quit consuming dairy between Sept 30th and filming date of Oct 12th as you can see in ’s latest video.

LDL-cholesterol is a causal risk factor for the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, meaning having elevated, or even suboptimal levels, can significantly increase one’s risk of developing plaque in their arteries and having a heart attack! In fact, lowering LDL-cholesterol by virtually any means, including statins, other medications, or dietary changes has been shown to lower risk, and the further you lower your levels, the more you can reduce your risk.

Given how much of an impact nutrition can have, as has been demonstrated by Dr. David Jenkins’ research on the Portfolio Diet, I created some handy guides that I share with my patients, with information about which foods raise LDL-C, which foods lower it, what optimal levels are, and much more. In fact, I recently updated them to include a host of information about what cholesterol is, how it contributes to cardiovascular disease, and the role of LDL in that process, although I do also have a simpler version without all that added information, and I’m now making these guides available to you for FREE!

So you can download these resources now at and the PDF includes the full guide, the simplified version that just focuses on which foods or nutrients can raise or lower cholesterol, printer-friendly versions of both, and of course a full list of references.

I hope you find these guides helpful, and if so, I might just create some more similar handouts in the future.
