But today’s joy was enough. It was enough for the girl who was the first graduate in her entire family, better so a medical graduate…and then a postgraduate, better so an AIIMS Delhi postgraduate…It was enough for the girl who never ever dreamt of going abroad even on a holiday, let alone relocating to the USA and better so relegating to unemployment and starting from scratch all over again.
Today she got ECFMG certified.
Behind the masquerading confidence she bore, she was always a little afraid- in all the generations of her family combined no one had ever even stepped out of the state, forget out of country or the continent.. She did not come from money or marry into money. She had no one to look up to, no one to fall back on, no one to actually really confide in. Quite frankly it was scary. But may be that’s why it was worth it. And so today’s joy was enough for her.
Because today, she got ECFMG certified. She cleared one of the toughest medical exams, the USMLEs. She can proudly call herself a doctor in the United States now. She crossed the first hurdle out of many and feels a bit reassured. Oddly, She feels enough.
She is me, and I’m happy today.
P.s- I owe it all to my one and only, my constant, my usher into the unknown, critique and companion, my biggest blessing and unrelenting supporter…. He has turned too many of my frowns upside down with his unamusing jokes and I’m glad. Thank you for keeping it light and breezy, Stupid ❤️
