It also has greater curvature/divergence and smaller height than the Garrison one – which allows it to diverge without the adjacent tooth interfering, and reduces the risk of overbuilding the elevation and black triangles
DME matrices allow for greater cervical divergence, which prevents black triangles when restoring anterior teeth, prevents "mushroom onlays" and gives a better apical seal
For decoronated teeth, they also provide greater bonding surface area at the cervical level and maximise the dentine bond (due to C-factor, low volume of shrinkage & delayed hybrid layer stress) which is key to restoring these cases
I have cases of decoronated teeth lasting years like the below when using this DME matrix first (back when I was manually cutting the matrix)
