As a kid, watching the O.J. Simpson trial with my dad sparked my dream of working in criminal defence. I went on to finish school, college, and earned a BA Honours degree in Criminology at University by the age of 21. After that, I completed my postgraduate studies in Cardiff University. I then spent nine intense and fulfilling years as a police station representative, acting as a solicitor and representing suspects during their time in custody.
But alongside my legal career, I had a deep passion for beauty, a passion that started as early as secondary school. I’d plait hair and thread eyebrows for friends (for free, of course!). I still remember their amazement at how a simple string of cotton could shape eyebrows so perfectly. By 18, I started offering more treatments, eyelash extensions, semi-permanent makeup, microblading…the list goes on.
What started as a hobby turned into a full-blown side hustle. By day, I’d be in a suit and shirt at the police station, and by night, I’d be pulling up to clients’ homes with my beauty kit, sometimes working until 2 or 3 AM, only to be back at the station by 8 AM.
“Those were some of the best years of my life! I loved every moment. Some of you have been on this journey with me and often said, “Dolls, you worked so hard!” And while I know I’ve put in countless hours, the truth is, it’s never really felt like hard work. When you genuinely love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work at all.
But at 30, I paused, reflected on my future, and realized the cold walls of police stations were starting to feel heavier. I was tired, and I knew it was time for a change. So, I took a leap of faith, retrained, and transitioned fully into aesthetics, a field I’ve now proudly been in for 10 years.
Today, at 40 (nearly 41!), I look back with so much gratitude and pride. It’s been a journey of growth, resilience, and passion.
So here I am, a 40-year-old small business owner, feeling happy, content, and truly fulfilled. No filter, no makeup, just me…with a smile.”
