This past week alone, we’ve celebrated a college graduate, a high school graduate, and a new driver — and soon, we’ll be celebrating a wedding.
These milestones are such sweet reminders of how quickly time flies and how much I want to soak up every season of motherhood with a thankful heart.

What a weekend, beginning with a proposal and a “yes” (congratulations Luke and Olivia! ❤️❤️), followed by a day of Easter fun (the “He is Risen Rolls” tradition, of course) and then an amazing day celebrating the greatest news of all- our Savior lives!

While my heart feels the ache of how quickly time flies, it’s such a joy to look back and see God’s perfect sovereignty in bringing Nic into our family.
We’ve watched him grow into a compassionate, loving, swimmer, artist, soccer athlete, cleaner, and a master of getting into mischief with his brother — and are so thankful for every bit of it, (ok, maybe not always the mischief part).😅
Yet some of Nic’s greatest testimonies aren’t found in his abilities, but in the beautiful ways God has worked through his challenges.
Nic is mostly nonverbal, but who can hear Nic pray — and he loves to pray— without seeing God’s goodness? He lovingly lists each sibling using his own sounds (“eye-eye” for Ryann, “ee” for Graci, “Peppy” for Presli, “OOH” for Luke, “Mo” for Morgan, and “Colt” for Colt… of course 😆), along with so much more we can’t understand — but God hears.
Or see his relationship with Colt, and the love and compassion that has grown in him (which is perhaps why the video of Nic comforting Colt for the first time, might just be my favorite) without saying, “God is so good!”?
Nic’s story isn’t typical, and it hasn’t always been easy, but his life regularly reminds us that God’s goodness and glory is seen in so many different ways and He is so worthy to be praised!
What a gift it is to be Nic’s family, and what a joy it is to celebrate ten years of his life. He constantly amazes me and I can’t wait to see what else God has planned for our boy!

We have now had two graduates, so I know how fast this time goes and want to soak up every moment and milestone. Sometimes I wish I could stop time, but I also look forward to, and love seeing what God is doing and going to do in each of these kids. With Colt and Nic you never know what is coming next, but it’s bound to be full of excitement. 😆❤️ Grateful for these days!
He woke up at 5AM shouting, “It’s my biiiirrrrthdaaaaaay!!!!”
If you know Colt, you know that blowing out candles, opening up presents-no matter what the gift is, dancing, singing, food, and people, are some of his favorite things, so no one loves birthday celebrations quite like him.
What a gift he is to us!
Praise the Lord for our fearfully and wonderfully made boy and the love and joy that he brings to us and so many! (I still think that God must have thrown in some extra love, joy, laughter and plenty of mischief in that extra chromosome when He was “weaving” him.😆)

Twenty years ago I delivered our second baby at home, in a late term miscarriage. It was the hardest trial I had ever walked through. While I believed in the Lord as my Savior and that He was in control, my relationship with Him was one of merely checking the boxes- maybe a two minute online devotional, church, check, check. But I needed more than checked boxes, I wanted to truly know Jesus and know His Word deeply as He carried us through this.
That is when I read the small book by John MacArthur on “How to Study the Bible” and began going through the Bible in the way he described. The Word of God came alive. I wasn’t just checking off a box but in awe of God’s work and understanding the depth of a relationship with Christ.
We ordered countless CDs of John MacArthur’s sermons. (This was pre- streaming days. I don’t think anyone could have been more excited than us the day GTY “opened up the online vault”.)
God used his teaching to grow our understanding and love of scripture as he faithfully, unashamedly, exposited the Word, verse by verse.
As a family, we have gone through books of the Bible while listening to his sermons. When Colt would ask for Luke to put him to bed, Luke’s regular response would be, “Ok, we can listen to some Johnny Mac together”, and he’d play a sermon while Colt fell asleep.
So when Colt picked up his new chick and declared that he was naming it “Johnny Mac”, we thought it was perfect.😆 Turns out Johnny Mac was actually our biggest, toughest rooster that protected the flock like nothing else, so very fitting. 😊
I love Johnny Mac so much and am so thankful for the impact his faithfulness to the Word of God and the sufficiency of scripture, has had on our lives.
I am so sad that he has left this earth but I can’t not rejoice when I think about him in glory, faith now sight, in the presence of the one he has lived for and led so many to.

When our 6th child, Colt, was born with Down syndrome, we didn’t know much about it, but we knew that he was fearfully and wonderfully made!
Two years later, we adopted Nic, who also has Down syndrome, from an orphanage in Ukraine.
Their bond has been inseparable from the first day.
And together their spreading love, joy, and the beauty of Down syndrome all around the world.
“I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” Psalm 139:14
