SOLD!

After more than a decade of blood, sweat, laughter and tequila … I sold. I want to thank everyone that took the time to come visit and all the friends that supported this sometimes impossible project. Who would have thought that this dusty and derelict piece of land would become one of the 50 most beautiful homes in the book. I’m very proud of what happened down there. Marfa is still home, just in a new and different way.

It’s hard to sum up my time there in only 20 slides…here are some highlights.

And a big thank you to and the team at for sticking it out and getting this house sold.
ABASK x Douglas Friedman: Setting The Bar High

After a love-labored, detail-drilling, two-year renovation, the wait is over: ’s sensational Long Island home is complete and it’s a positive celebration station of home-design smalls by ABASK.

From the newly minted Lobmeyr Bar — complete with ’s iconic Series B glassware and Friedman’s own collaboration with the 200-year-old Viennese experts — to bedroom textiles by ABASK x and dining room drama by, the designed home is a masterclass in the cohesion that comes with considering all the details in sync with the design.

“Having the most incredible opportunity to work with ABASK, I was educated to consider every accessory in the home,” says Friedman. “There’s not one thing in here that wasn’t thought through or discussed — literally everything is from ABASK and all these incredible artisans that you guys work with.”

My recent guest in this season’s podcast ‘Designing the 21st Century,’

Widely considered America’s most celebrated interiors photographer, Douglas Friedman’s charismatic and cinematic images of high-profile spaces and the lifestyle attached to them fuse elegance, boldness, and the ultimate chic. He has captured the art of living in the sophisticated home through his interpretations.

His way of framing spaces and their contents, the superb use of light, and understanding of volume, form, and objects have become influential in defining photography of taste and aesthetics. His images of the homes of tastemakers, creatives, and those who live with exquisite taste are glamorous yet realistic and filled with clarity. They have been giving the public a peek into some of the most beautiful homes in the world, and an appreciation of the efforts taken to create and curate them.

He has been a celebrity, an Instagram super star, and a famed figure in the worlds of fashion and art.

To Douglas Friedman, storytelling, like weaving visual narratives, comes to intertwine images and spaces. His photography, regularly published in some of the world’s best design magazines, has come to capture the essence of the contemporary interior as a personal, unique entity, informed by identities. He tells the story through his lens in the most passionate way; and that passion is communicated in the images. Whether it be fashion, lifestyle, landscapes, interiors, or architecture, Douglas Friedman always expresses his subject matter in the most sharp, polished, and confident way.

New Work: a few years ago, I bought a 150 year old farm house on Long Island. My good friend, designer, stopped by to see what I had done, and then said “D, I really want to do this house for you”. Was this a threat or a promise? To have one of the best in the world offer to design your home was exciting and daunting. And of course I said yes, and there were plenty of sleepless nights when I wished I had said no.
I mean, was there really any reason to worry, I had the titans of the industry on the team: AD100 designer Steven Gambrel,, a young and well practiced architect with a design wisdom beyond his years; Steve White at, a builder on Long Island responsible for constructing the homes of billionaires in The Hamptons, and another good friend,, designing the landscape and gardens. What’s the worst that could happen? One year became two, a couple more accounts drained. But with the help of some of the best craftspeople and trades out there, we built something beyond my expectations; a house that speaks to its past and one that embraces a life more contemporary.
So, finally, I am very excited to share this work with you. Thank you and the team at for supporting this project from day one.
