You can probably count on one hand how many G70s you’ve seen in the wild so far this year. That and the fact that this is still *technically* the first-gen model, means you probably forgot the G70 still exists, especially after Kia killed off the Stinger. Consider this a reminder that the perfect sport-sedan still exists.
Genesis did a good job at keeping it fresh. It got a facelift in 2022, a new base engine and some tech updates in 2024, so the ‘26 model doesn’t feel totally stale. Considering the oversized grille, the looks aged well; though the lower fender vents still feel like a Bentley rip-off, the generous dash-to-axle ratio and flowing character lines give the G70 a sleek silhouette. It’s a feast for the eyes, especially in this Tasman Blue/Dune Beige colour combo. Gorgeous spec.
This G70 has “only” the base 2.5-litre turbo-four under the hood. It’s a *very* good base powertrain, with 300 HP and 311 TQ. The eight-speed auto is a little hesitant to kick down compared to a ZF8, that’s our only knock. It’s very punchy, it doesn’t sound like a tractor, and it’s pretty decent on gas. Unless you insist on having the best-of-the-best, you probably won’t miss the V6.
The only aspect that ages the G70 is the infotainment. It still runs Hyundai’s previous-generation software, meaning it doesn’t have the knob, the tile-based layout, and widescreen display as other Genesis models. Crucially, it also doesn’t have wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto — bougie thing to complain about, but like, come on.
Sometimes, we feel a little jaded by big-screens-this, automated-that, and reinventing the wheel for the sake of reinventing the wheel. Honestly, the 2026 Genesis G70 was a refreshing break from today’s digital fatigue. I’ll take a bumpin’ sound system, a tasty colour combo, a warm-feeling interior, well-tuned steering, and a damn good base engine in an “old” new car any day of the week.
