It’s with the deepest ache in our hearts we share with our extended Depot family the passing of our very, very dear friend and for the last 30 years- our Monday night residency, Chris Gage.
A Depot Monday night with Chris was something to behold. The moment his fingers hit the baby grand…something electric happened- a shift in the room. Regulars, staff, newcomers… all moved by the music he played and his strong voice that filled the room. He would invite freshmen musicians and seasoned pros to share his stage- and became the maestro of an unforgettable night Every. Single. Monday. No Monday Chris played was ever the same, and every single one of them was magic:
South Dakotan Native American Powwow singers, French CanCan dancers, a Swedish Pop Band? Just another Chris Monday night at Donn’s.
We can’t fully talk about Chris without acknowledging his beautiful Christine. Our very, very dear friend, (Depot) musician and Chris’ most beloved partner in music (Albert & Gage) life and love- Christine has shared her music, her love (and for the last ten months) so much of this journey with us. Chris couldn’t have had a better advocate, caregiver, wife and soulmate. We love you so much, Christine.🩷
Chris and his immeasurable talent, his music, his joy, his friendship, his love, his impact to our world - it’s all woven into the fabric and the story of Donn’s. The community he built over decades every Monday is a cornerstone of the Depot you know today and that family and friendship that is so deeply important to all of us- is in huge part, because of him.
We are so grateful, honored and humbled to have shared so many years with our friend- his music, his goodness, his legacy will live on eternally. Thank you for all of it, Chris Gage. 🎹 ❤️ 🎶 🎸
