Small tiny city with lots to explore! Don’t underestimate its size; Singapore offers much for everyone including its fantastic food scene, multiculturalism, world class architecture, infrastructure and green parks.

The founding of Jerash happened around 175-164 BCE. Jerash grew rapidly during this time, as the city was had a lot of resources and it was center of trade with Damascus and Petra.
When Roman Emperor Trajan added Jerash it became part of Roman province of Arabia in 106 CE.
The city’s wealth allowed a lot of construction of temples such as Temple of Artemis. The city was home to 10,000-25,000 people in 175 CE.
In 614-630 the Persians captured Jerash and so it was weakened even further when the Arabs arrived in 636 CE. The wealthy people escaped to Damascus and new trade routes circled over Jerash so the economy shrank by a lot. The city declined.
Another blow to the city was when Abbasid Caliphate relocated their capital from Damascus to Baghdad the city became irrelevant.

What really draws people in is the massive blue mosaic dome, which is where the mosque gets its nickname. Step inside and the vibe instantly shifts. It’s calm, airy, and beautifully simple, with geometric patterns, Arabic calligraphy, and a huge chandelier hanging over the main prayer hall. It feels peaceful without being overwhelming, even if you’re not religious.
Non Muslim visitors like myself, are welcome outside of prayer times, which makes this a great stop for learning more about Islamic culture and architecture. Modest dress is required, but they provide robes if needed. It’s an easy, meaningful place to visit and a nice break from Amman’s busy streets, giving you a deeper look into Jordan beyond just the food and viewpoints
