In de filmwereld heb ik geleerd om met afwijzingen om te gaan. Projecten die niet doorgingen. Kansen die aan me voorbijgingen.
Nu ik als singer-songwriter mijn weg zoek in de muziekwereld, merk ik dat dezelfde lessen weer terugkomen. Ook hier hoor je nee. Ook hier word je niet altijd gekozen.
Het bijzondere is dat ervaring je niet immuun maakt voor teleurstelling, het doet nog steeds iets met je.
Maar de filmwereld heeft me één ding geleerd: een afwijzing zegt niet altijd iets over je als maker. Soms betekent het alleen dat je stap voor stap blijft bouwen, leren en geloven in wat je maakt. Misschien is dat iets wat we allemaal herkennen op onze eigen manier.

Geen camera. Geen kennis van film. Geen connecties in de mediawereld.
Mijn aanmeldingsfilm voor de Filmacademie was letterlijk de eerste film die ik ooit maakte. Ik kreeg vaak een ‘nee’ te horen uit de film- en mediawereld. Dat waren moeilijke momenten.
In die periode hing er voor mij veel vanaf. Een toekomstbeeld, een droom.
Ik besefte al snel dat ik harder moest werken dan anderen. Meer moest doen. Verder moest gaan. Support vinden was in het begin moeilijk. Navigeren als vrouw van kleur in de mediawereld gaat niet zonder slag of stoot.
Maar iets in mij zei altijd dat ik door moest gaan. Oogkleppen op. Blijven leren. Blijven creëren. Blijven geloven.
Die mentaliteit heeft me gebracht naar waar ik nu sta.
Als ik dit pad heb kunnen bewandelen, kunnen jullie dat ook.
