戸隠森林植物園はレースコースの後半、戸隠神社の赤く趣深い「随神門」の先にあります。
４月の開園に向けて、環境省、長野県長野地域振興局、戸隠観光協会、関係団体、企業の皆さま、ボランティアの方々とともに、園内遊歩道の整備や木道のメンテナンス、グリーンロープの設置、ウッドチップの敷設などの作業を行いました。
普段、多くの方が気持ちよく歩いている遊歩道や木道も、このように多くの関係者の協力によって支えられていることを改めて実感しました。開園前のこの時期ならではの大切な作業に今年も参加させていただき、とても貴重な機会となりました。
信越五岳トレイルランニングレースでも関係の深いエリアのひとつであり、日頃から大会開催にあたって多くのご理解とご協力をいただいている地域でもあります。こうした環境整備の場に関わらせていただけることに感謝しています。
これから雪解けが進み、新緑の美しい季節を迎える戸隠森林植物園。多くの皆さまに安全に、そして気持ちよく楽しんでいただけたら嬉しいです。

山形県金山町で生まれ育った須賀暁さんは、摂食障害やぬけぬけ病に苦しむ大学時代にトレイルランニングと出会い、電車の運転士として働きながら市民ランナーとして走り続けたのちにプロランナーの道へ進みます。コロナ禍を経て変化した走ることへの向き合い方、仙台市で立ち上げた自身のランニングチーム、そして東北の山々を舞台にしたレースのプロデュースなど、須賀さんが自分の心の声に耳を傾けながら選び取ってきた歩みを語っていただきました。
