Diana, Princess of Wales, was photographed visiting The Hale Clinic in London on the 29th of May, 1997. The princess looked stunning in a pink Versace sleeveless shift dress, featuring the brand’s iconic boat neckline and a bodycon fit. She sported a pair of Versace’s “486” tortoiseshell rounded sunglasses featuring signature gold-tone Medusa and Greek key detailing. Diana also carried a Versace white leather satchel bag with tortoiseshell handles. She completed her look with a pair of nude leather Chanel ballerina slippers, embroidered with the CC logo on the toe-box.Another gem! Diana was photographed taking her son Harry to watch a performance of Riverdance at Hammersmith Apollo in London on December 18th, 1996. She donned a Versace Spring/Summer 1997 two-piece wool tonal pinstripe black pantsuit comprised of a single-breasted blazer and a pair of high-waisted pants; The jacket has matte black buttons, a fold-over collar, square shoulders, a contoured waist, and shaping at the hips. The pants are high-waisted with creased legs. This suit was auctioned off at Julien’s last summer for $39,000! The princess also carried a Versace Fall/Winter 1996 black croc-embossed leather handbag featuring gold-tone Medusa hardware.Diana, Princess of Wales, was photographed on November 3rd, 1996, leaving the Ritz Carlton Hotel Double Bay after her fundraising visit to Australia to raise money for cardiac research. She wore a Versus by Versace Spring/Summer 1996 zebra stripe white silk crepe shift dress; an identical design with a front zipper is pictured above. Versus was a diffusion line of the Italian house, a gift from Gianni to his sister Donatella. Her jewellery included gold and mabe-pearl button earrings and a pearl choker. Unfortunately, there are barely any pictures from this event so the rest of her outfit remains unknown!During her trip to Chicago, Diana visited the Northwestern Memorial Hospital and also attended a luncheon hosted by Brenda Edgar on June 6, 1996. Her wardrobe for this tour was almost exclusively designed by Gianni Versace; here she chose a white wool sleeveless A-line dress featuring four patch pockets from the Fall/Winter 1996 collection; pictured above in the first slide is the purple rendition that walked down the runway on Naomi Campbell, and in slide #2 is her off-the-runway white version. The princess accessorised her dress with a white belt from the same collection, featuring the Italian house’s iconic Medusa head in gold as a buckle. She carried a champagne-coloured Prada lambskin leather tote bag with a gold chain link and woven leather handle. Her jewellery included gold and mabe-pearl button earrings and a pearl choker; Not entirely sure, but I believe that her gold watch could be from Tiffany & Co.’s Signature series; while I haven’t been able to find an exact match to the watch, it’s 3-strand yellow gold basket weave design is identical to pieces from the collection, it wouldn’t be the first time she wore something from this collection! She owned the earrings and bracelet. Diana completed her look with a pair of Chanel beige leather stiletto pumps with a white cap-toe, embroidered with the ‘CC’ logo on the toes.On June 23, 1997, Diana, Princess of Wales, attended a special reception at Christie’s in New York City for the auction of 79 of her dresses, which raised a total of 3.2 million dollars for charity. For the occasion, Diana commissioned her go-to designer Catherine Walker for a glass-beaded floral slip dress; the dress was embroidered in iridescent sequins and clear crystals to mirror the grey and cream tones of the fabric, inspired by Walker’s Fall/Winter 1997 Russian collection. In her autobiographical book, the designer recalled that “although the Princess chose to wear two similar simple embroidered shifts in London and New York for the receptions preceding the auction of her dresses, she wanted to convey a very different feeling in each case and the embroidery and fabrics were quite different; in New York, we wanted the embroidery to be lighter and more understated in this calm neutral print.” The princess also donned a pair of mabé pearl earrings, edged with undulating strips of white diamonds set in platinum, and wrapped with polished yellow gold rope, and a double crescent gold bracelet circa 1944, both from New York-founded jewellers Verdura; the interlocking crescents on the bracelet derive from the cipher of Diana, Roman goddess of the hunt. While arriving at an after-party, Diana was photographed carrying a creamy satin clutch bag with gold-tone signature Medusa emblem, featured throughout the Versace’s Spring/Summer 1995 Ready-To-Wear collection; similar pictured in slide 4. Finally, she completed her look with a pair of beige Jimmy Choo slingback pumps. On June 2, 1997, Diana, Princess of Wales, attended a private viewing and reception celebrating the auction of 79 of her dresses at Christies in aid of multiple charities, including the Aids Crisis Trust and The Royal Marsden Hospital Cancer Fund. The Princess commissioned Catherine Walker to make her this ice blue Taroni silk crepe shift dress, featuring dazzling ice-rose embroidery. Diana also donned a pair of diamond cluster and pearl dangle earrings, which were a wedding present from the Emir of Qatar, a tennis-style diamond bracelet, and her famous aquamarine ring, featuring an emerald-cut aquamarine flanked by small solitaire diamonds set in 24-carat yellow gold, stacked with a diamond band-style ring; the aquamarine was given to the Princess by her friend, Lucia Flecha de Lima, and created into a ring by Asprey in 1996. Finally, she wore a pair of matching ice blue silk satin sling-back pumps designed by Jimmy Choo.Diana, Princess of Wales, was spotted having lunch with her stepmother Raine Spencer at the Connaught Grill in Mayfair, London, on March 28th, 1997. The Princess stunned in a modified version of the Christian Dior Spring/Summer 1997 Haute Couture “Maasai” Prince of Wales check pantsuit, featuring double-breasted blazer with frayed trims, padded shoulders and upturned cuffs, paired with creased trousers; this was British designer John Galliano’s very first collection for the house! She also donned Cartier’s “Tank Louis” yellow gold watch featuring a black leather strap, and wore a pair of Manolo Blahnik black satin pumps.Diana, Princess of Wales, attended the Daily Star Gold Awards on March 19, 1997, to honour individuals who have shown extraordinary bravery at the Savoy in London. Di donned a pink fine wool suit designed by Catherine Walker, featuring a cropped single-breasted blazer with a row of white buttons and turned back cuffs. The princess kept her accessories to a minimum, only wearing a pair of fan-shaped diamond earrings with pearl drops; unfortunately their origin is unknown. Philip Somerville was commissioned to create a matching custom pillbox hat to go with the suit. She also wore her 18k yellow gold Cartier Tank Française watch, featuring a golden sunray dial, blued-steel sword-shaped hands and sapphire crystal. The Princess carried a Gucci “Kelly” cognac leather bag with a gold-tone front lock, and wore a pair of Chanel beige leather cap-toe stiletto pumps with an embroidered ‘CC’ logo on the toe box.On Valentine’s Day 1997, Diana, Princess of Wales, celebrated The Variety Club’s Gold Heart Day by opening the new Renal Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, also coinciding with the Hospital’s 145th anniversary. Diana wore a mint green tweed suit from the Chanel Spring/Summer 1997 collection, consisting of a double-breasted cropped blazer, accentuated by the iconic gold interlocking CC buttons and two front pockets, and of course, a matching skirt. She was given this nine-carat gold heart pin, a smaller version of the Variety Club’s metal badge, which she wore on her lapel; it cost £250 and was donated by an anonymous jeweller who made it specially for her as a keepsake. Di also wore her 18k yellow gold Cartier Tank Française watch, featuring a golden sunray dial, blued-steel sword-shaped hands and sapphire crystal.
