Although the afterlife is the central theme of Día de muertos, the reality is that it’s a celebration of life a moment to remember our loved ones who have passed, and in doing so, honor their memory.

We want to thank everyone who participated in the collaborative altar, for bringing their photos, their offerings, and their vulnerability.
Why marigolds, or cempasúchil, are the iconic flower of Dia de muertos?

Cempasúchil (marigold) is the ceremonial flower of Día de Muertos always present on every altar.
Truckloads of flowers arrive from Atlixco, Puebla, overflowing with cempasúchil and terciopelo rojo and the flower vendors take care of distributing them all across the city.
Jamaica Market is one of our favorites, and this season it turns completely orange. We’ll miss it.

Next year, we bloom again.

Día de Muertos in Xochimilco was a magical and unrepeatable experience.
Among the canals, the trajineras and the chinampas, together with, committed to regenerative agriculture and fair trade, we created a gathering full of meaning.

In Mexico, our relationship with death is intimate and luminous: we do not hide it, we dress it in color, art, respect and life.
And with the arrival of Día de Muertos, where the memory of those who are no longer with us is the heart of this tradition, we celebrated this journey with admiration and presence.

Pan de muerto, hot chocolate and coffee from
A sensitive, vulnerable and honest moment around our collaborative altar., from Mis Mezcales, shared his love and dedication for mezcal through a tasting; and Jorge and Pilar created a dinner rooted in Mexican flavor, memory, care and detail.

It was a beautiful and magical day.
Thank you for joining us one more year in this special ritual in Xochimilco.

Here are some of our favorite moments.

Sunday, November 2
Just one more week and the Jamaica Market will be bursting with color. Trucks coming in every morning with freshly cut marigolds and cockscomb both a very important part of this celebration 🏵️🌺

And just one more week until our Day of the Dead gatherings. 💀

Each year I try to move away from the painted faces and touristy side of the season, and instead create moments that feel personal and closer to our traditions and to what these days truly mean.

Both events revolve around memory and connections.
The chefs are invited to be vulnerable and cook from the heart, creating four courses inspired by moments shared with their loved ones who’ve passed.

We’ll also build a communal altar together, for anyone who didn’t grow up setting one at home. So everyone is encouraged to bring a small item or a photo and make it part of the event.

And of course, mezcal will be there, because all good things should have some.

On Saturday November 1, we’ll gather for a ceremonial dinner next to Jamaica Market with bringing his style, aesthetics, and love for food.

The next day, Sunday Nov 2nd we’ll head to Xochimilco for a chinampa lunch with
Chefs Pilar and Jorge known for their modern tacos from will be cooking something full of heart, flavor, and nostalgia. A perfect way to spend a Sunday.
