Ebru Kurbak is an artist based in Vienna. She currently is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, where she leads the long-term arts-based research project “The Museum of Lost Technology”, funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). She also is Associate Professor of Arts at the Bergen School of Architecture in Norway.
Kurbak’s work critically examines the entanglements between art, technology, culture, and power. A central trajectory in her practice explores the implications of the historical, social, and spatial segregation of knowledge under colonial modernity. Her research focuses particularly on string and string-based technologies rooted in women’s, Indigenous, nomadic, and prehistoric cultures, and their relationship to “high” technology.
Kurbak’s work has been exhibited internationally, most recently at Istanbul Modern (TR), NIROX Sculpture Park (ZA), Neue Galerie Graz (AT), and VIENNA ART WEEK 2025 (AT). Previous exhibitions include ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe (DE), Ars Electronica Festival (Linz, AT), SIGGRAPH Art Gallery (US), MAK – Museum of Applied Arts Vienna (AT), and the Istanbul Design Biennial (TR), among others. She has held residencies at La Gaîté Lyrique (Paris, FR), V2_ Lab for the Unstable Media (Rotterdam, NL), LABoral (Gijón, ES), NIROX (Krugersdorp, ZA), 18th Street Arts Center (Los Angeles, US), and Eyebeam (New York, US). In 2019, she received the LACMA Art + Technology Grant from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Lena Karoline Reutenauer: Armour of Care
Armour of Care is a participatory installation that confronts visitors with abstracted versions of existing garments associated with unpaid domestic labour. It proposes new possible approaches on care by experiencing and interacting with the object.(Slide 1-3)
Stefan Schönauer: The Fools Journey – Artistic research on identity performance and bread
The Fools Journey is an embrace of the arbitrary, failure and intuition. Using an auto-ethnographic approach this work attempts to dismantle fixed notions of identity and proposes dissonance, confusion and playfulness as productive, queer means of self-definition and individual agency. The work uses bread as a medium of abstraction, turning towards camp symbolism and metaphor to produce a narrative that is as vulnerable as it is subversive. It is a personal approach towards navigating the present and accepting a murky and complex past. (Slide 4-6)
Maria Schweiger: Face Today – What am I doing here?
Face Today is a playful, visual reflection game consisting of 28 colorful cards. By layering cards with symbols, mouths, and eyes, players compose expressive faces to visualize emotions and reflect on themselves. A set of prompts places players in different scenarios, which they respond to by creating a face. What face would you make if you had to go back to school for one day? (Slide 7-9)

Authored by Professor Anab Jain with Niko Heep and Stefan Zinell, Designing Questions is an invitation - not just to designers and design students, but to everyone - to reclaim the power of the question.
Emerging from a decade of teaching and learning at, Designing Questions brings together pedagogical reflections with extraordinary work from our students, who demonstrate how speculative, ecological, and futures design can help us engage with a deeply complex world with imagination, care, and joy.
The book arrives at a critical juncture, and feels particularly relevant, as debates around artificial intelligence and planetary instability are forcing us to reflect on the deeper purpose of learning and working.
With a foreword by and an afterword by and contributions from Fiona Raby Vanessa de Oliveira Andreotti, Zoy Anastassakis, Nana Biamah-Ofosu, Rory Hyde, Angela Neubauer, and Giovanna de Oliveira Andreotti.
Designed by Theresa Hattinger, edited by Naoki Matsuyama, and produced by the Angewandte Publications Department ✨

Founded in 2016, Mash.T Design Studio is the designer-maker practice of Thabisa Mjo, working across lighting and furniture as a site of inquiry into form, material, and making. The studio cultivates archival gestures by engaging craft lineages and material intelligence as living systems, translating texture and gesture into contemporary objects that exist between the sculptural and the functional.
Through hands-on manufacturing and close collaboration with master artisans across South Africa, Mash.T develops original designs with layered interpretations-objects shaped as much by memory, process, and technique as by use. The practice approaches making as a critical act, reworking the familiar to invite slower looking and deeper engagement.
Thabisa's work forms part of the permanent collections at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at the Louvre and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Inspired by real human responses—seemingly meaningless acts that preserve inner order and dignity—the film unfolds as a metaphorical story of resilience. The wishing device combines scientific research, Chinese astrology, and knot-tying rituals, and is presented through a first-person pseudo-vlog. The film pays tribute to sincere naïveté and offers resilience as an encouragement for the future. It is a pre-diploma project by Oulin Chen

Examining the garage complex illustrates how historical social patterns can be employed to foster alternative community structures. Physical proximity enabled people to act together as they became more aware of each other's lives. This created situations in everyday life with the potential for solidarity. The project is rooted in these experiences from the time of the SED regime, when (forced) neighbourly solidarity shaped everyday life.
‘Soldarisches Ost-, Ost-, Ostdeutschland’ invites us to build on this historical influence and explore places of solidarity through passive coexistence.

The diploma project by Lena Reutenauer abstracts two examples of garments that are associated with the household, namely the apron and the Butterick Walkaway dress, into new objects.
These objects produced suggest acknowledging the social relevance of care work, as well as the demystification of care as a „labour of love“, done only by specific bodies.
Furthermore, the experience of social reproduction as something communal, instead of an activity done in isolation by a single person, can extend our definition of care as well.
