Historically, childbirth was often surrounded by rituals, practical help, female relatives, neighbors, and experienced mothers. The details varied across cultures, but the underlying assumption was often the same:
🤱 Motherhood was not something a woman was expected to carry entirely by herself.
Today, many of us have inherited a very different story.
We are taught to value independence, productivity, self-sufficiency, and individual achievement. Women are often told that asking for help is weakness, that needing support means they are not coping well enough, and that a “good mother” should be able to manage it all.
Sometimes these messages even come from other women.
Older generations may dismiss younger mothers as fragile or demanding when they ask for more support. But needing help is not a sign of personal failure.
It is a sign that we are human.
The reality is that many of us have been socialized into a culture that romanticizes individualism while systematically removing the communal structures that once helped mothers survive and thrive.
We celebrate resilience.
We admire women who carry everything.
And then we wonder why so many mothers are exhausted, isolated, and overwhelmed.
Technology has improved.
Medicine has improved.
But many mothers are being asked to navigate matrescence with far less collective support than women once had.
⚠️ That is not progress.
It is a social choice.

Yet in 2018, researchers at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research in Australia found that components within menstrual fluid helped heal laboratory skin wounds significantly faster than normal blood plasma.
In the study, menstrual fluid plasma achieved almost 100% wound closure within 24 hours, compared with around 40% using normal blood plasma.
Researchers believe this may be linked to the regenerative proteins, stem cells, and repair factors found within menstrual fluid.
The same fluid many societies taught women to fear, hide, or feel ashamed of.

So I sat with it and this is what I created to express my inner world.
For some, looking at these truths is painful, of course! It can trigger the nervous system to unbearable levels.
For others, it comes from ignorance, whether through lack of knowledge or lack of capacity for more information or even care.
For others, it’s rooted in fear, survival wounds, or deep conditioning. Often it’s many of these at once.
I share this not with judgement but with love and compassion.
We all played our part in this world. And to live in full authenticity, we must at least know what is happening in our collective.
I do not mean watching every horrific scene or tracking every government decision.
I mean holding a basic overview of where we are, or at least being open to the possibility that what we have been told is not the whole story.
Each of us has a role. Some may pray. Some may donate. Some may protest. Some may create art, sing, write, or speak. Some will show up loudly, others quietly.
