Spending five days trekking through the Sumatran jungle to observe these mysterious primates was an experience I won’t forget.

Finally had a chance to edit some Iceland shots from the last trip I’ve guided there. All pictures have been shot on the Fujifilm GFX 100s II. The details I’ve been able to capture with this beast are on another level!
Vor kurzem habe ich mir das neue FUJIFILM 23mmF2.8 Pancake Objektiv zusammen im Kit mit der FUJIFILM X-E5 zugelegt. Um herauszufinden, ob es mein bisheriges XF23mmF2 R WR als kompaktes Immer-dabei ersetzen kann, habe ich beide Linsen mit nach Istanbul genommen und etwas miteinander verglichen.

Das F2 punktet klar mit der höheren Lichtstärke und zeigt offenblendig eine leichte Weichheit, die sich wiederum für Portraits gut eignet. Ab F2.8 legt es in der Schärfe sichtbar zu.

Das neue Pancake ist deutlich kompakter, wiegt nur 90g, liefert richtig starke Resultate und macht beim Fotografieren einfach Freude.

Für meine Reiseprojekte werde ich künftig auf das Pancake setzen. Zusammen mit der X-E5 wird es wohl meine geliebte X100VI als Zweitkamera unterwegs ablösen. So sehr ich die X100VI mag, ist es auf Reisen ein grosser Vorteil, beim Zweitbody ebenfalls die Objektive wechseln zu können.
Wenn ich auf Reisen mit einer Kamera und einer Linse auf Erkundungstour gehe, nutze ich meistens ein 23mm mit 35mm Vollformat Äquivalent. Es deckt eine grosse Bandbreite an Motiven ab und bleibt flexibel genug für Street, Details und spontane Portraits.

Da FUJIFILM vor kurzem ein neues XF23mm Pancake rausgebracht hat, stand ich vor der Frage, ob ich zukünftig fürs Reisen von meinem FUJINON XF23mmF2 R WR auf das neue FUJINON XF23mmF2.8 R WR Pancake wechseln soll. Ich habe daher beide auf eine anstehende Reise nach Istanbul mitgenommen und ausgiebig getestet.

Folgendes ist mir dabei aufgefallen: Das neue XF23mmF2.8 Pancake ist bei Grösse und Gewicht unschlagbar und mit F2.8 immer noch lichtstark genug für den Alltag. Zudem ist es deutlich unauffälliger und macht die Kamera extrem kompakt. Für Street und fürs Reisen würde ich klar auf das Pancake setzen.

Das XF23mmF2 R WR hat für mich aufgrund des Bildlooks und der F2 Blende weiterhin Vorteile. Mehr Freistellung und etwas mehr Spielraum bei wenig Licht. In den Kategorien Autofokus und Verarbeitungsqualität wirkt es zudem schneller und robuster. Für Portraits und kommerzielle Jobs würde ich deshalb weiterhin zum XF23mmF2 greifen.

Die letzten Wochen war ich folglich mit dem XF23mmF2.8 Pancake in Vietnam und Thailand unterwegs. Das kleine Pancake hat sich absolut bewährt und war sehr oft auf meiner X-E5 montiert. In dieser Kombi macht es Spass die Kamera den ganzen Tag dabei zu haben.
Recently, I had the chance to observe and photograph these weirdly beautiful langurs in Vietnam. They are very shy and elusive, but it was well worth the time spent searching for them.

I’m especially happy that I got to capture the synchronized head turning clip in the 4th slide.

Vor kurzem war ich mit den drei FUJIFILM Pancake-Linsen in Istanbul unterwegs, um herauszufinden, welche davon künftig einen festen Platz in meinem Travel Kit erhält.

Das XF27mmF2.8 R WR der ersten und zweiten Generation nutze ich schon seit einigen Jahren. Neu dazugekommen ist das XF23mmF2.8 R WR, das ich mir zusammen mit der X-E5 geholt habe. Um das Trio zu vervollständigen, habe ich mir für diese Reise noch das XF18mmF2 R ausgeliehen.

Alle drei Linsen sind extrem kompakt und passen problemlos in eine Jacken- oder Brusttasche.

Das 18mm gehört zu den ersten FUJINON Linsen, die für das FUJIFILM X-System erschienen sind. Auch heute liefert es an hochauflösenden Sensoren solide Ergebnisse. Die Bilder sind nicht klinisch scharf, haben aber viel Charakter. Für Video würde ich es wegen des Autofokus allerdings nicht empfehlen.

Das 27mm hat in der aktuellen Version auch einen Blendenring, den ich sehr schätze. Die 40mm Brennweite im Kleinbild-Äquivalent mag ich besonders. Zum Einsatz kommt die Linse bei mir hautsächlich für die Streetfotografie oder Porträts unterwegs. Der Autofokus ist zuverlässig und die Kompaktheit kaum zu übertreffen.

Das neue 23mm hat mich sofort begeistert. Vor allem an der X-E5 kommt die Kombination sehr nah an meine geliebte X100VI heran. Die Linse eignet sich perfekt als Immerdrauf und macht einfach Freude.

Am Ende hat sich das 23mm einen festen Platz in meinem Reisekit gesichert. Es kommt immer dann zum Einsatz, wenn ich mit einem kompakten Setup ohne konkrete Fotoabsicht unterwegs bin.
