Beginning in August, I will be traveling to the rainforests of Borneo, Indonesia, where I will spend a year assisting with research on wild orangutans in Dr. Erin Vogel’s lab. I hope to continue this research and ultimately receive my PhD.”
“Serving as Vice President of Foundation for Delta Gamma has been one of the most meaningful parts of my college experience. Moving from Massachusetts to SDSU was such a huge change, and coming to a school so far away from home was both exciting and intimidating. I never could have imagined how much Delta Gamma would shape my college experience and truly become my home away from home. Joining DG completely changed my life in the best way possible. It gave me my best friends, my biggest supporters, women who inspire me every day, and memories I know I’ll cherish forever. This sisterhood has helped me grow so much throughout college giving me confidence, leadership opportunities, and a sense of belonging that made such a big campus feel like home.
Getting to serve in this role has been especially meaningful because of my connection to our Service for Sight philanthropy. Growing up with a blind grandfather gave me a personal understanding of the importance of accessibility, advocacy, and supporting individuals with visual impairments. Being able to contribute to a mission that is so close to my heart has made this experience even more rewarding and something I will always be grateful for. Delta Gamma has given me more than I ever could have expected when I first came to SDSU: lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and the opportunity to be part of something so much bigger than myself. “Hi! My name is Mikaela Miller and I am an active member of DG as well as a member of the Surf Team here at SDSU. Growing up in both Newport Beach, CA and Montauk, NY, I have been surfing for as long as I can remember. Surfing in the mornings while going to chapter events in the afternoons and evenings have been helpful throughout my first year here at SDSU. Along with this, the free yoga classes our chapter has to offer has given me the opportunity to continue my training for surfing.
