What’s your take on lifting strap❓🤔

Here’s mine:

Lifting without straps is causing you to leave gains on the table!

❌Your grip will always give out before your target muscle group.
❌You’ll lose out on the opportunity to take your muscles to failure
❌ you’ll inhibit quality reps

If you are concerned about your grip or forearm strength, here are recommended exercises that you can incorporate in your training instead:

âś…Farmer Carries
âś…Suitcase Carries
âś…Dead Hangs
âś…Any Wrist Curl variation
âś…Conventional or Sumo Deadlifts (for maximal strength)

Remember.. train with intention!
Shift your perspective on working out and shift work.

Balancing a training schedule with your working schedule can be tough— but when your schedule changes from working days to nights on a weekly basis, it can feel like it’s impossible to get into a routine that both leads to progress in the gym and respecting your body’s need for recovery.

Delia shares her own experience on working as a nurse and how she has been able to find success in this balancing act:

“Some advice I’d give to those beginning a career involving shift work 🌙🌞:

• Plan ahead of your sets. Take the day to do laundry, cook some nutrient dense food that will keep you upright for 12+ hours. Enough so you don’t have to think about cooking after you get home from work. My go-tos are a readily available protein source that won’t taste terrible re-heated (spices are your friends), big salads with mixed greens, cheese, sandwiches, energy bars, chopped fruit, boiled eggs, nuts n seeds, etc. Keep the fridge full for easy access when you’re sleepy.

•Maximize your sleeping hours. Black out blinds and sleep masks are your friends. A fan or ear plugs also help. Not going to bed on an empty stomach can help improve your sleep quality and keep your bowels regulated between days and nights. Try to resist that mid-shift coffee! Limit caffeine intake to earlier in the shift to ensure your quality of sleep is optimal.

•Take time for you on your days off. If you’re lucky enough to work a 5 off rotation, use them to reset, see friends, family, and most importantly, do the things that help you de-stress. A job that demands so much of your mental and physical being cannot be sustained without proper recovery.

•Take each day in strides. Healthcare is and will always be evolving. You’ll learn something new each day! The nurse I was 4 years, or even a year ago vs the nurse I am today are two very different gals. It’s okay to have bad days, each one teaches you something new. Try to be gentle with yourself. You’re doing the best you can.”
“I don’t deadlift because it hurts my back”

Well it shouldn’t!

A common mistake we see with deadlifts is the starting position. Starting too far behind the bar can load pressure on the back and cause you too lift with your back instead of your legs.

A quick fix: STAY OVER THE BAR! Shifting your weight from your heels to mid-foot will position you correctly to get the leg drive you need and avoid unnecessary strain on your back.

And as always, before any lift remember: BBM— breathe, brace, move!

If you’ve been apprehensive to deadlift out of fear of injuring your back, try making these adjustments and see how if it works for you!
Breathe. Brace. Move!

A fantastic movement that is often done incorrectly is the overhead press— so let’s correct it!

Follow these steps to prevent injury from incorrect lifting and optimize your overhead press.

Try it out and let us know what helped!
“Im just doing it for me”

Lifting heavy weights is not an all boys club— and shows up everyday to prove that.

It can be intimidating for anyone to start working out; especially when you look around and mainly see people who don’t look like you. And finding the motivation to stay consistent when starting out can be challenging when you’re nervous and busy.s

Delia’s advice: find a style of training to fit your lifestyle and do it for you. Don’t worry about what other people are doing! Find what works best for your personal needs and goals!
I guess it’s safe to say & I go wayyyyyy back… 🔙
