Old school and new school collide here as Mixmode Recordings boss and longtime deep house servant Delano Smith joins contemporary trailblazer Ash Lauryn on a seductive and smoky new single. Lauryn contributes a spoken word vocal that has her whispering into the mic with alluring late night intimacy as classic drums roll beneath dusty chords. Atlanta mainstay Kai Alce then brings his signature bounce and swing to a remix that has brighter chord work. On the flip is the meditative 'Let The Rhythm' with its swirling chords and subtle Detroit touches with another entrancing and conscious spoken word from Lauryn finishing it with style.
Happy to share my new collaborative EP with my dear friend. We go back to the mid 2000’s when I was a bright eyed youngster hanging out at Agave getting my life to that Detroit Beatdown sound.
Throughout my career Delano has remained a constant supporter and cheerleader of my journey. They say kill your idols, but Delano is one of the exceptions in this industry. Not only a talented producer and DJ, but also a stand up GUY! His contributions to the Detroit music scene run deep and I’m incredibly proud to be apart of this project. Was dope to lock in the studio together in the D some months back!
