I’ve been reflecting a lot lately, both to celebrate everything that has gone well and to better what hasn’t. When these opportunities come to me, I do wonder, what have I done to get here? And how can I maintain this? The truth?
Consistency and dedication.
I have refereed all day 3x3 tournaments before for £30, when other referees questioned it, I just said I enjoyed it. Under the sun all day for £60, again, joy. Looking back….all of these are what gave me the experience and confidence to go on such a stage with so many pros and call these “fouls”. Even then, I was so nervous🥲. I had many conversations throughout the weekend but my highlight was probably “NBA referees don’t just go out there and do an impecable job, they’re tested every play. How you behave after you’re tested is what betters you”.
So, privilege or opportunity?
“It is not unearned but simply an opportunity given to advance” and develop as a referee but more importantly as a person🧡✌🏽
