I’m so very grateful for the clients and collectors who have joined me along the way. Sometimes my clients will purchase a single painting. And other times they will collect additional works, like this one. ‘Just Past Midnight’ was recently installed in its new home with such collectors and, as always, my gratitude runs deep 🙏🏻

🖼️ My urban nightscapes, like this one, are meant to juxtapose feelings of isolation with the connections that can be found in urban settings, emphasizing the complexity of human experience. In this composition, one of Vancouver’s most iconic and architecturally memorable buildings (the Hotel Europe) the composition imbues this historic hotel with a type of nostalgic mythology that speaks to the lives lived within and around its walls.
⏳As time allows, I’ve been working on a new project that I will be excited to share with you soon. This painting will be a part of it. More to come! 🖼️
Years ago, while working in my studio in Gastown, Vancouver, I found myself in need of drawing paper. Lacking traditional materials, I repurposed a cardboard box, transforming it into a mixed media canvas. This unconventional substrate proved to be an enjoyable medium, allowing me to embrace the concept of upcycling materials often discarded.

To my surprise, my friend and colleague appreciated the finished piece enough to purchase it, sparking further exploration of this approach in subsequent works that feature themes of people, places, and objects, much like this one.

I have a number of recurring motifs in these works. One of the most consistent ones is the skull. It is a reference to our mortality, my family of three and the preciousness of life. It’s a reminder of what is important to me as I work.

I encourage you to examine the artwork closely; hidden within are these intricate details, including text, symbols, and various elements sourced from my studio. This particular piece was crafted on a large packing box lid, perfectly timed for the arrival of the sunny season 🌞

❤️💛Small print release💛❤️ There are certain places and moments that stay with us. For many in Vancouver, the Hollywood Theatre is one of them. $2.50 Tuesdays, double features, and evenings that felt like a small ritual in the rhythm of the city.

🖼️ ‘Last Night’ reflects that memory, capturing both what the theatre once was and what it continues to be today.

In addition to the Hollywood piece, this small print release also includes two works that explore quieter, more reflective moments.

🖼️ ‘Say What You Will’ considers the contrast between meaningful, shared artistic experiences and the constant flow of digital expression. This piece serves as both a celebration of artistic expression and a reminder to engage thoughtfully with the world around us.

🖼️ ‘Just Past Midnight’ depicts one of Vancouver’s most iconic and architecturally memorable buildings, the Hotel Europe. Often referred to as the city’s version of New York’s Flatiron Building, it carries a sense of nostalgic mythology, hinting at the many lives and stories held within its walls.

Together, these three works speak to memory, atmosphere, and the in-between moments that often stay with us the longest. In collaboration with each print has been carefully produced to reflect the depth and character of the original paintings. Each archival-quality paper print is produced with Epson Ultrachrome Ink on Epson Hot Press Bright paper, a 100% cotton, acid-free material renowned for its durability and measures 20 x 16 inches in size.

🎞️ There was a time when the Hollywood Theatre meant $2.50 Tuesdays, double features, and a night out that felt like something special.

🎥 If you remember it, you know. This piece was created to hold onto that feeling. A moment in Vancouver that so many of us shared, now reimagined as it stands today.

This video shows the print being brought to life by Tricera Imaging here in Vancouver. Archival inks, cotton rag paper, carefully produced to last a lifetime.

For those who would like to bring this piece into their home, two print editions are now available:

🖼️ 20 x 16 inches — Studio Edition$275.00

A portion of proceeds from print sales will support the BC Cancer Foundation in honour of Marnie, my wife, who is currently undergoing weekly and extensive treatment for breast cancer.

It’s been a while since I have posted on Instagram but once again life has taken another unexpected turn. For the past few months my beautiful bride has been fighting a very aggressive form of breast cancer. To say it hasn’t been easy is an understatement. But is, and always has been, someone that does not back down from a fight. But It’s been a hard slog for us all. There are still many weeks of treatment ahead for her (and by extension, for her family and some of our most dear and beautiful friends) but we are slowly finding our way through.

Just as I’ve been absent from social media so have I been absent from the studio. But as we settle into this new sort of rhythm I’m hoping that will change and I can get back to creating new work. I’m looking forward to once again experiencing how the circumstances of life impact the work I create. More to come soon ❤️❤️❤️
Today is the final day of the Gibson Fine Art of Calgary presentation of my New York City inspired work. I’ve long enjoyed creating work based upon one of the world’s greatest cities. Included in the presentation is a glimpse of new subject matter to come this year in the form of panoramic view of Paris. Stop by the gallery of you can and say hello!
GFA is pleased to present a new body of work by David Wilson, now available to view online and in the gallery.

Wilson’s recent paintings explore the rhythm of the city through shifting light, reflection, and movement. Streets, interiors, and passing figures are rendered with a sense of immediacy, capturing moments that feel both observed and lived. Weather, time of day, and atmosphere play a central role, shaping scenes that are familiar yet quietly unsettled.

We invite you to spend time with the work online or visit us in the gallery.

🖼️ Within my practice I get to work with many wonderful people that include art advisors like who connect me and my work with her wonderful clients and collectors. This painting of the Burrard Street Bridge was recently framed and installed by. It’s a large work at 58.5 x 72.5 inches but when left in expert hands, as it was, it now looks fabulous hanging in the client’s home 🙏🏻
