I’ve developed an AI literacy curriculum at Oxford to run a research study on how students actually learn Claude Code. Looking for a small cohort of around 10 Oxbridge students who haven’t really used it yet.

I’ll teach you Claude Code. You’ll show me how it’s actually learned.

𝗔 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁:

Claude Code is Anthropic’s agentic AI coding tool. It isn’t a chat window - it takes actions on your computer, writing files, running commands, building things based on your prompts. The closest thing right now to an AI that codes with you, not just for you.

What this study examines is not the marketing version of how Claude Code works, but the real, sometimes frustrating, first-time-user version - what helps students get unstuck, what doesn’t, what changes the way they think about their own ideas.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴:

- 2-hour online workshop with me and the rest of the cohort, walking through Claude Code from scratch
- 2-3 weeks of self-directed building, on whatever makes sense to you - something for a community you care about, or something personally useful
- 30-minute check-in halfway through
- 60-75 minute final interview about your experience

Total researcher contact is about 4.5 hours. Build time on top is whatever you put in. You keep whatever you build.

𝗘𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆:

- Current Oxford or Cambridge student
- No heavy prior use of agentic AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot)
- Has or will get Claude Pro for the build period (~£18 for one month, yours to keep) with training setting set to ‘off’

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲:

There’s no payment. The trade is teaching for time.

What I actually want from you is honest insights and critical feedback. The study is interested in what frustrates you, what doesn’t work, what felt counterintuitive. Don’t be polite for my sake!

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱, 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝟳𝟴𝟱𝟬@𝗼𝘅.𝗮𝗰.𝘂𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵:

- Your year, course, college, and university
- Any prior AI tool experience
- One sentence on why you’re curious

Pleased to share that my full interview with Professor Santa J. Ono is now live. Santa is a 3x university president (Cincinnati, UBC, Michigan), and now Global President of the Ellison Institute of Technology Oxford.

In 2016, his younger brother Ken Ono - the renowned mathematician - co-authored a memoir with the late Amir D. Aczel (Amir D. Aczel Foundation for Research and Education in Mathematics, Inc.), My Search for Ramanujan: How I Learned to Count, published by Springer in 2016.

Chapter 21 is titled simply: “I Believe in Santa.” I opened our conversation by asking what those 4 words meant to him...

My deepest gratitude to Professor Ono, and to Amna-Teodora Achim, Emma Page, and the University of Oxford team at the Ellison Institute of Technology Oxford. I am equally appreciative of Sonari A., Nikki Smith, Alisa Brown, and Wantoe Teah Wantoe MPP, MSc at the Oxford SU’s Oxide Studio - the recording would not have happened without them.

Excited to share that Sir Tim Hitchens is coming on Coffee’s on Me, David Quan 权丁文 - live in Oxford, Tuesday 12 May. To join our meet-and-greet, please DM me.

He’s been President of Wolfson, my college, since 2018, after 35 years in the British Diplomatic Service.

Speechwriting, he’s said, is the work of getting rid of yourself and inhabiting someone else’s mind. That’s one of the threads I want to pull on - what 35 years of diplomacy taught him about listening before leading.

Bio in comments.

Looking forward to my 112th recorded Podcast interview - and to a conversation I’ve wanted to have for a while.

The only non-Cambridge team at our Cambridge Student Investment Fund (CamSIF) Pitch Day this year came from Northeastern University!

Aayush Katyal, Portfolio Manager at Nexus Investment Fund, NUL (Northeastern University London), reached me in early March via Vikaas Varma, my former basketball teammate and our mutual friend. I then introduced Aayush to Mikail Firas Abdul Jabbar, our CamSIF President, who generously welcomed Nexus to pitch alongside the Cambridge sector teams.

12 days later, Elena Muri and her team - Aayush, Sam Bateman, Nicholas Reichert, Eesha Parimi, Param Saxena - were in Cambridge pitching Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY), a very special moment for everyone.

Their long thesis rests on 3 pillars. Lilly’s $50B+ US manufacturing build-out earned a 3-year tariff exemption and gives the obesity franchise capacity at scale. Retatrutide, Lilly’s triple-agonist, posted 28.7% average weight loss in TRIUMPH-4. And on 10 April 2026, Lilly is set to launch Orforglipron, its oral GLP-1 for obesity - 76.5% of patients say they would prefer a pill to an injection. A long pitch with a launch on the calendar.

The team had built a stress-test into the thesis. Each macro variable - oil-price spike, energy inflation, tariffs - was answered with a Lilly-specific defence. Oral pills cut packaging exposure. Metabolic health is non-discretionary. US manufacturing earns the tariff exemption. The long thesis held under the bear’s own scenarios.

Post 9 of 9 - the final carousel of the series - my notes from judging CamSIF Pitch Day Lent 2026. My interpretations only, not investment advice.

Thank you everyone!

Most short theses point to a window. But the Cambridge Student Investment Fund (CamSIF) FIG team’s short on Affirm Holdings (NASDAQ: AFRM) pointed to a particular day - 7th of May 2026 - and gave us a more personal reason to remember it.

The thesis runs cause to effect. Affirm raised its top APR cap to 36% in 2023, and the team showed that decision adversely selects the riskiest borrowers - only those with no alternative take the rate. To frame the timing, they pointed to LendingClub’s 2016 repricing: charge-offs there went from 4.9% to 8.0% over a 12-22 month lag. Apply that lag to Affirm’s % APR vintages, and the credit cycle lands on Q3 earnings. It is a credit cycle disguised as a fintech story.

I used my main question as a Judge on the gap between credit deterioration and management response. If management can see the credit pool deteriorating, why would they keep pushing growth through that cycle - and not pull back originations to protect margin? The short thesis assumes Affirm lends through. A credit-committee instinct says the opposite.

Analyst Joe Xu was in Year 8 at St Peter’s College Adelaide when I was there, and we had the same brilliant economics teacher, Mr Jon Inge. We reconnected at last Michaelmas’s CamSIF Pitch Day - when he pitched First Solar - and Mr Inge commented ‘time for that multiplier effect’ on my post. I can now affirm it! This Lent Joe was back for CamSIF, this time on Affirm, and hosted me in Cambridge.

This is why I keep coming back to our community.

A short you could mark on a calendar - and the puns on ‘affirm’ wrote themselves.

At Cambridge Student Investment Fund (CamSIF) Pitch Day, judges get one priority question each. When a pitch on Adobe is this sharp, the only place to go is a tension the team themselves put in the room. I used mine on one slide in our Technology team’s presentation.

Specifically, Adobe retains over 90% of its clients every year. But only 1,500 of its 22,000 enterprise clients have ever bought 5 or more Adobe products. If clients are this embedded and loyal, those 22,000 have had years to buy more - and most chose not to. What changes now?

(Note: President Firas raised great updated points of considerations in the LinkedIn comments section)

The team’s central move is that the market is misreading AI as a substitution threat to Adobe when it is actually a monetisation inflection. Their evidence was company-disclosed. In Q4 2025, Adobe told investors that one $10 million ARR client had stepped up by another $7 million after adding Firefly Services and Firefly Foundry. Generative credit consumption had tripled quarter-on-quarter. 70 million monthly users were already on Adobe’s generative tools, up 35% year-on-year. AI was meant to compress Adobe’s ARR. On the team’s numbers, it was doing the opposite.

The Technology team’s slides themselves were a lesson in restraint - as clean and effective as Adobe’s own product work.

Most Quick Service Restaurant stock pitches start and end with same-store sales growth. This one, however, used store density maps, foot traffic data, and commute traffic flow analysis. Congratulations to our Cambridge Student Investment Fund (CamSIF) Consumer Discretionary team.

Dutch Bros Coffee is a 1,136-store American drive-thru chain most people outside the US West have never heard of. In Texas, there are 127,000 people per Dutch Bros location. Starbucks has 19,600. That density gap - and the room to fortress into suburban corridors before competitors arrive - forms their investment thesis.

A room full of University of Cambridge students who know Starbucks for their coffee and free wifi... So, the audience Q&A wrote itself.

was always going to enjoy this one!

Feeling so blessed for 10 000 Coffee's on Me, David Quan 权丁文 Podcast downloads!

When I started this passion project Podcast at a low point of my time in Cambridge, I was genuinely motivated by three founding ideals – (1) Purpose of giving, (2) Learning from others, and (3) Sharing of stories – that still make up the content description for every single episode. The opportunities to strive to give my courageous and insightful guests legacy-worthy interviews over coffee, tea, bubble tea, or water, despite my many inadequacies, have been a tremendous privilege that imbues me with gratitude.

So, I take this opportunity to thank and acknowledge all my guests (full list in comments), and everyone around the world who has resonated with those founding motivations about giving, learning, and sharing!

Please nominate a guest, provide feedback, or reach me via my LinkTree David Quan!
