What do 80s movie villains, harmonized guitar solos, and perspective grids in Cinema 4D all have in common?
Dave Arcade.

In this episode, Dave talks about building wild, illustrative worlds with arcade machines, monster heads, and all sorts of nostalgic chaos. He shares why drawing what you think is cool might be the most honest creative advice out there, and how his fake last name became a real brand.

We get into art direction, burnout, Bobby Lee as a Marvel hero, and basement bowling alleys.

This piece was always meant to be animated. Finally got around to it. The Final Boss of Final Bosses

So I got to make a #backtothefuture poster. This is nothing short of a bucket list item in my career. If you saw the post I was tagged in yesterday and you want buy one, check the details of yesterday’s post. If you want to see the details of the poster itself…just stay here for a minute. No music. No tricks. Just nice, large crops of every moment in the poster. Speaking of moments, there were a ton to choose from since BTTF is one of the most iconic films ever made and though I couldn’t fit everything, I hope I chose the best things.

Thank you for being an “absolute dream” to work with 💋

here, one last time. It was a fun week taking over the account. I really enjoyed sharing my work and I appreciate all the love from both old friends and new. Here are some personal pieces. They glow like old cartoons. Also, lots of muscles. I grew up in the 80’s. All our actions movies featured at least one dude with glossy muscles:
- our cat, Merlin
- The toughest guy
- Nirvana
- Final Boss

Until next time 👋

Brand kit and mural for a #leagueoflegends gaming event in Paris, held at and put on by. Yesterday I commented that I enjoy populating my pieces with a lot of cool and useful assets and that isometric perspective especially takes advantage of the “useful” part because it allows me to create illustration kits packed with layered assets that a client can then use to knock out a ton of branded content for their specific needs. This project is a perfect example of such a collaboration. Hope you enjoy

here. Isometric art is super useful for what I do. I love detail. We covered that in the last post. I also enjoy populating my pieces with a ton of useful, cool assets and Isometric perspective is by far the most efficient approach to achieve this. I always work in vector—always Adobe Illustrator. Everything I draw is fully illustrated (even if it’s obscured by another item) and on its own layer.

You hear that potential clients? I’ll always give you a ton of extra, useful, fully fleshed out assets that you can break apart and do with whatever you please in all of your social, marketing and branding efforts.

That sounds like a shameless plug but I feel no shame for providing this service to my clients. Why would I? I get to draw a bunch of cool stuff and they get to break it apart, play with it and make brand new things. It’s a win win. Speaking of, I’m available for projects. Featured are a few Blow-apart diagram animations and various other projects. Clients include:

A little tease of something coming in the near future with Dave Arcade!
here. I love making murals because the scale encourages detail and I’m very fond of detail. It’s an opportunity to create little moments of discovery. Sometimes it’s esoteric, sometimes it’s a Dad pun but more often than not, details add up to tell a larger story.

Everything here was created on my #wacom tablet and then installed on site:

1. NBA All-Star Weekend, AT&T Fan Experience (Interactive mural)
2. Big Cartel HQ
3. We Like Small (Ad Agency)
4. Wunderman, Irvine (Ad Agency)
