We ate. A lot. The food is insane: smoothie bowls that look like art, rice, noodles, things with sauces you can’t pronounce. Sport didn’t come easily, but we managed some Pilates - so let’s pretend we’re disciplined. Balinese massages, however, we took very seriously. Almost every day at the beginning. Self-love at its best. We also did a “spiritual cleansing” before New Year’s Eve. Very spiritual. Very commercial. But still somehow nice. Bali is like that: ancient temples everywhere, offerings on the streets, and at the same time smoothie shops and crypto bros. People here are a whole Netflix series. First, the “spiritual wannabes”: talking about consciousness and trauma without being asked, sometimes high on something, sometimes just scary. Some live here full-time (those are the scariest), some are tourists (just ridiculous). Then the “enjoying life” people: moved here, work in surf schools or cafés, bodies like Greek statues, skin like leather, minds very calm, living one day at a time. Then there are tourists like us: half spiritual, half alcoholics, food addicts, trying to heal and destroy ourselves at the same time. And finally, the Indonesian people - the kindest, sweetest, and slightly naive. They smile a lot. They make offerings every morning. They believe in balance. And somehow they make you feel safe. It’s rainy season, so yes, it rained. But usually for like two dramatic hours a day, and then the sun comes back like nothing happened. We moved around by scooters. Oh, how I love them. The wind in your face, the pure feeling of freedom, the mild fear of death every five minutes - unforgettable. Fun fact: Bali has more temples than you can count, and people genuinely believe the island is protected by spirits. After a week there, I kind of believe it too. The first week ended. The year 2025 ended. And we were fully immersed, fully present, and fucking happy to be there and to be alive. Life felt simple. There were no needs. We had everything.
In my head, on repeat: life is beautiful.
The week is over, and it’s time to move to Ubud.

To say that we were excited would be an understatement. Bali this, Bali that - we’ve heard about it a million times. Still, after the kind of year 2025 was for me and Mariia, we were counting the days like children before Christmas. By December, we just wanted to leave. Leave the city, leave the old energy, leave everything that wasn’t serving anymore. The flight was long, but honestly, it was needed. A rare chance to just sit, think, and stare into nothing while your life reboots somewhere above the clouds. We landed around 23:45. And that moment - when you step out of the plane and get hit by humidity, strange smells, and that heavy tropical air - it’s magical. Immediate joy. Immediate realization: we made it. The first day was… heavy. A bit dizzy, a bit unreal. But thanks to ChatGPT’s holy advice, we somehow avoided real jet lag. Praise be to modern technology. Bali hits you with chaos first: scooters everywhere, noise, life, movement. And then suddenly you turn into a tiny street and there is silence, geckos singing lullabies, sweat dripping down your neck, and the sun burning your skin gently through the clouds like it’s testing you. I could describe the sensations for days, but nobody wants to read a poem about sweat and lizards in Uluwatu. The island has strong energy. People talk about it, but you only understand it when you’re there. You feel relaxed and overstimulated at the same time. Your eyes see too much, your ears hear too much, your nose smells too much, and your skin is basically having an orgasm because it’s summer and it’s hot - especially if you’re obsessed with summer like I am. We didn’t make plans. Very “go with the flow”, very Bali cliché - but we actually meant it. Even though I had a list of recommendations, I wanted to wake up and listen to my inner guidance like a real spiritual adult (sometimes).
