With a bit of info from it looks like the owner of the hat was a Herbert Cradock from kilmersdon
I went down another rabbit hole on this and found that at aged 23 in 1889 he married a fanny who became fanny cradock (not the famous cook) this could have been his wedding top hat!
THE CRADOCKS
The cradocks lived at lowerfield farm in kilmersdon so whilst out that way they otherday I went to St Peter & St Paul's church. After looking around for awhile and almost giving up I found the grave of Herbert Cradock who died in 1913 and is buried with his wife Fanny Cradock.
There were several other members of the long line of cradocks also there but im yet to find a relative in the area still
THE ISAACS
a bit more digging on the isaacs name found that the maker of the hat was Samuel Bennet Isaacs, part of a long line of Isaacs that lived at 32 Catherine hill which is now and had the shop at number 14 Catherine hill.
The shop was actually G.H. Isaacs. Andy's directory only came up with the name E.G. Hillier as a hatters in the 1920s at 14 Catherine hill and it turns out that G.H Isaacs transitioned to E.G. Hilliers. His directories also only found the name Albert H Isaacs at 32 Catherine hill who was obviously part of the family.

Last week a man brought in 2 hats, at first glance they were pretty standard until I looked inside the top hat.
There I saw the makers mark S.B.ISAACS FROME, CATHERINE HILL
I googled the name and nothing came up! I really wanted to find out the number of the shop the hat originally came from.
A friend done a bit of digging in his directories but found nothing. His directories only went back to the 1920s.
I went to and asked there. The guys there were very helpful and found an old receipt which said S.B.ISAACS, hatters & hosier, dated 1989 and more importantly 14 Catherine Hill which is now and 2 shops up from us!
I asked to see if there were any pictures of Catherine Hill from that time! There were a couple of the bottom of the hill but none from the top to hand.
I left the museum and later done abit of scrolling through images on Facebook pages and from the museums Facebook page came the picture in black and white dated 1890s of Catherine Hill from the top with 14 Catherine Hill in the right of the picture and although you cannot make out a shop name im confident this is the hater & hosier S.B.ISAACS.
In the hat also is the name H.Cradock. Ive not gone into extensive research about that name but Google suggests that Cradock is associated with Cradocks tractors located just outside of Frome.
I find it amazing that roughly 120-130 years later this hat finds itself coming into a shop only 2 shops down from where it was originally purchased.
Not by any means our most valuable or rarest item but possibly our most interesting ever due to the connection
