We first met this year back in February. Coincidences drove me to Berlin, coincidences drove me to that place at that time.
We met during the first protests against the war in Ukraine. I was there with two friends and we listened in on a speech. Because it was so cold the other two wanted to go home after a bit. I walked past Alina, admired her beautiful music and threw in some coin while passing. That could have been it...
But after 50 meters I told my friend that I would go back and listen for a bit. I went back and listened, standing in the cold of winter, freezing. But I didn't feel all that cold - her music was so wonderful and kept me warm inside. Just focusing on the music the cold didn't really matter. I felt so connected with this music and being that I wanted to dance. My body was quite exhausted, it would have been easy to take that as an excuse to not dance. I then just tried to get closer to my center & myself, get into a state where my exhaustion and the cold wouldn't matter. When she sang the same song again - one whose lyrics I only half understand as it's only partly English - I closed my eyes and started to move. The song with the lyrics "I'm a soldier" - I not only danced to it, I played the role of a soldier. One that is desperate, who doesn't want to face all of this pain anymore. Who wants the pain and suffering of war to end.
This was the first time we met and also the first time I openly danced to street music. She was so happy and appreciated that I found something in her music and danced - as apparently not many people do. She shared tea with me, which I happily took, still shivering both from the cold but also the strain on my body which had already been exhausted before.
This war the first time that we met, that we randomly stumbled into each other - it would not be the last!
