If they fail a test ➡️ why can’t they communicate that?
Have to serve a detention ➡️ let them share that information, I mean they are the ones who deserved the consequence to begin with.
Not working during class ➡️ why can’t they say, hey mom/dad I only got three questions done during class. Will you hold me accountable to do more at home?
Here’s WHY…
It takes one small, yet large, thing off your plate. And if students are doing the deed why not have them start the line of communication! Not only does it make for a simple click, to reply ALL but it takes the pressure off to find the perfect words.

For starters, I do NOT assign mandatory homework. For a plethora of reasons but that is for another day 😁
Check for understandings are short and to the point. I can grade them on the spot or during the first or last two points of class.
This brings me to the 🍖 and 🥔🥔 …. TESTS!
It’s pretty simple - - grade first periods during second period, second periods during third period, third periods during fourth period at etc. by the time you get to the last class you can grade it on the spot because you have the answer key practically memorized 😊😊😊

It is pretty simple. Here is how it works.
I take their test and chop it into pieces. One at a time students stand up and grab a slip. They return to their desks and complete the problems. Then they bring it up to me and I grade it. If they miss any problems I tell them to keep and study. This means take the slip of paper home and look over the problems. If they get them all correct and I tell them, name and drop. This means put your name on the slip and drop it into the prize bag the student wants to win! In the last two minutes of class I draw the winners!
It is incredible simple and incorporates lots of movement. The class period flys by! I 🤍 it.
