Mahjong quietly took over last year - and chances are you’ve watched friends play, seen it at parties, or heard a friend say “we should learn sometime.”

mahjong lessons are perfect for moving the idea out of the group chat or a perfect prep session if you’ve been invited to play with friends but a little intimidated.

🀄️ They walk you through the game step-by-step, answer questions as you go, and make it feel approachable even if you’ve never touched a tile before. It’s social, mentally stimulating, and a nice change of pace from the usual January goals like working out more.

One of my unexpected favorite parts-it was so engaging, other than getting a little content, I barely looked at my phone for 2 hours.

If you’re looking for a new-year activity that’s fun, low-commitment, or to be mahjong party invite ready, this is for you.

📆 Dallas classes coming up:

Jan 11 - Sixty Vines

Jan 26 - Halcyon

Feb 8 - Sixty Vines

Price for beginner lessons varies depending on location and what’s included - coffee, wine, apps, etc. - see event description for details. Usually $60-$80.
This officially marks two full years of intentionally focusing my social time, money and energy on activities vs food and drink focused get-togethers.

Last year was heavy on the craft classes. This year was heavy on musical theater and live entertainment.

I let the wind blow me where it wants and don’t set a rigid parameters for the year, but I would love it if I can work in more wellness activities - maybe a few more yoga socials or 1:1 sauna/cold plunge hangs.

I also have a strong urge to just do new & different stuff. Things I have never experienced before. The unexpected, the complete one-off activities. Maybe something a little more exciting than the 5th museum exhibit of the year.

If you have anything quirky I should check out for my next yap session with a girl friend or group outing with my Meetup, toss it in the comments!

Let’s get weird!
It’s curtains up on the first Broadway show of the year in Dallas!

Kimberly Akimbo is making its Dallas premiere and you have a week and a half to check out this 5x Tony winning show – including Best Musical 2023.

Kimberly is about to turn 16 and recently moved with her family to a new town in suburban New Jersey. In this “howlingly funny heartbreaker of a show” (The New Yorker), Kim is forced to navigate family dysfunction, a rare genetic condition, her first crush...and possible felony charges. Ever the optimist, she is determined to find happiness against all odds and embark on a great adventure.

This is your sign to get into your at home coffee bar bag this January.

☕️ For the price of one latte out, you can get a whole bottle of your favorite coffee shop Torani syrups at a restaurant supply store.

Of course you can also buy the syrups at HomeGoods and TJ Maxx, but they have a longer shelf life from here as well as a few bucks cheaper than buying at World Market.

in Farmers Branch has all these flavors for $6.99 plus pumps for $3.89 and you do not need to be associated with a restaurant to shop there.

I posted about this option over the summer and it went crazy. Considering many people are trying to save money or go out less in January, I wanted to share it again if it’ll help with your goal (but selection could be different rn from pictured).

Different locations have different brands & flavors. Comment below if your local US Food Store carries Moni’s brand, lots of ppl were looking for that this summer.

A part of my rich life is living in a city with TWO theaters that host touring Broadway productions. When I lived in other cities the theater was either harder to get to, much more expensive or didn’t have many shows to choose from so I wasn’t able to enjoy it as much as I have the last few years in Dallas.

So many young people want to go to the theater but feel like it’s intimidating or too expensive but it doesn’t have to be.
🎟️ Tickets usually start around $30-40 at both theaters.
🚗 Fair Park has free parking in their lot and Winspear has free street parking starting ~3 blocks away.

✨ Broadway Dallas has frequent discounts for students, teachers and first responders announced on their IG and ATTPAC will email about sales and promos.

📆 Upcoming shows for the first half of 2026:

1/6-1/18 Kimberly Akimbo
1/27-2/1 Six
2/17-3/1 The Great Gatsby
3/10-3/22 A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical
3/31-4/12 Some Like it Hot
5/6-6/14 Wicked
6/16-6/28 Clue

3/12-3/14 The Music Man
4/23-3/25 Kinky Boots
5/8-5/10 Stereophonic
7/9-7/12 Spamalot

📍 Broadway Dallas/Music Hall at Fair Park & Winspear Opera House/ATT Performing Arts Center

Maximize these last few 80 degree winter days and get outside! If the little ones think the park is boring, show them this little gem across the bridge at Lakeside Park.

It’s the perfect spot for pics with the little ones and I’ve seen the most adorable baby announcement pics taken there too!

If you have a running bet with your friends that you could beat them in Squid Games, now is your time to shine!

Netflix House is now open in Dallas and one of their two primary attractions is Squid Games. I played the first game during the opening party earlier in December and here’s what you might want to know:

⏰ 60 minutes long

🎯 Everyone plays 4 games (even if you’re 💀 last) + the finale (until there’s a winner)

🎟️ Tickets start at $39pp (kids and adults)

💻 Purchase on the website or at venue

📅 Starting in January, closed Monday & Tuesdays, except holidays

🔢 Time slots accommodate up to 24 players for each session

🙋Solo players are welcome to book and play with whoever else is in that session, just as a group of 2 or 4 would also join.

👟 DO wear sneakers, Ring Around The Rosie (or whatever its called) and Red Light Green Light were tricky for those in heels

🛍️ DON’T bring in a big coat or bags. There is no one place to set your items while you play.

🚫 Costumes are welcome, full face masks are not

💰 No, you do not win cash. But you do get to keep the mask at the end.

🍔 Other attractions (for fees) at Netflix House: Stranger Things, Arcade, Netflix Bites restaurant, Netflix merch shop

🚗 Free parking, closest garages are Purple or Orange (NW Side of the mall)

📍Galleria Mall Dallas
After having my mind blown by The Matrix in Shared Reality at, I found out their next movie with the same scene expanding technology would be Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. It’s my all-time favorite, so obviously I had to go back. 🍫✨

🍭 The Shared Reality tech hits totally differently here. Instead of increasing the intensity and action as it does for The Matrix, it leans into the candy-colored, sing-along magic, with extended visuals that amplify the whimsy of the film including adding lyrics on screen.

Cosm rounds out the immersive experience with a themed menu too -
🍔 Wonka burger with blueberry bacon jam
🌭 Gloop Brat with German sausage and Bavarian mustard on a pretzel bun
🍟 Golden Fries with chocolate dipping sauce
🍪 And of course there’s dessert, it is Willy Wonka after.
🍨 Pro tip: the Ice Dream sandwich is a group effort.

📅 Lots of daytime showings during Christmas break if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary for your family outing.
🎟️ Tickets on the website.
📍 Grandscape, The Colony, TX
