I only do in-home newborn sessions with returning clients - mainly because we already have a relationship, established connection, and trust. It’s a vulnerable thing to step into someone’s home, the place where they share meals, love, fights, and messes. And especially in the early days of postpartum. I want them to feel no judgment, no pressure, no rush - to know I’m on their schedule, going at their pace so they feel completely comfortable and safe. I want to observe, guide, honor, adapt to your rhythm. I am there to support & offer soft reassurance of respect for your home and life.
Some photographers guide. Some photographers witness. Some of us live somewhere in between (hey, it’s me). The middle ground is where trust, comfort, and storytelling meet…where posing can be tender and direction can feel safe. Where being a wallflower isn’t lazy, and stepping in isn’t controlling. There isn’t one “correct” way to photograph a wedding, a family, or a love story. Some people need gentle guidance to feel at ease. Some need space to forget the camera exists. Some need a little of both. Different approaches, same goal: honest, human, meaningful images that let people feel seen, respected, and free to be themselves. That’s where the magic actually lives.
There’s a time to step back and let the professional photographers document your life. ✨
25 years ago, I can remember holding the woman in these photos - in my arms. I was 8 & I was so excited to have a little cousin. Fast forward and here she is having her first little one.
What do we do about our grief over time passing? We photograph our lives.
Do you know what really break’s a photographer’s heart on a wedding day?

Vendors who do not serve the couple or work well with others.
Seeing the couple rush through moments they’ve been dreaming of for a really long time.
Guests glued to their phones during moments that are deserving of their full attention.
The entire day feeling like a production & buzzing with logistics instead of presence.

The couple not having breaks to pause, rest, or step away.
Emotion/important moments being minimized because it’s “not on the timeline” or because “we’re running behind”.
When the couple says they are just ready for the whole day to be over before it’s begun.

While vendors can’t solve or prevent all of these, hiring a team of people you really trust can yield a day that actually breathes. People who support you, advocate for you, protect your time, & honor what is important to you.

There is nothing that brings us more joy than seeing you cared for, prioritized, & valued - taking the time to truly feel your love, not hold back, & savor your day.
Do I want your photos to look beautiful? ABSOLUTELY.

But joy first.
If you ask me about my style/approach? I’d honestly tell you it’s a blend of authentic, candid, emotive, photojournalistic, editorial, documentary, adventurous, dark & moody, true-to-color, with a heavy dose of emotive & cinematic. But those are just buzzwords. If I could add in timeliness, classic, light & airy, I could call myself well-rounded 😂. I’m not saying those words don’t matter, especially for SEO purposes and being able to give form to my style/approach. But art does not have a box & neither do photographers. This is all just language. I absolutely care about cohesion with my work, but I guess my point is that my true signature is not a set of specific words, but rather how I make people feel in front of the camera.

“Comfortable” feels like an anchor in my work. It’s the real thread running through everything. It’s the word you will most commonly see in client reviews. I love being around people. It’s like a love language for me (quality time is #1, actually). I thrive on connection. I love talking, laughing with you (probably too much), learning who you are, reflecting that in your photos. Because people are different, I want what I do/how I do it to serve that reality. I’m like a chameleon. I can confidently step in to guide, direct, pose, & prompt. I know how to give space & just let you be. You just learn to do what feels right for people & for that moment. It’s reading a room. It’s trial and error. It’s seeing that people are more than projects, photos, or paychecks. It’s just the simple joy of telling stories, being with people, observing, engaging, creating. I want my clients to be themselves & I just want to be myself too.
With family sessions that have littles, following their pace always leads to the most beautiful photos. Patience is not a strategy, but how photos come alive.
Hi. Dakota here. I’m a mix between silly & serious, old-soul & adventure. I’m a wife, mama, & follower of Jesus. If you’re new around here, here’s a few things to know about me:

1. I AM DEEPLY INTENTIONAL. Not just in my work, but in how I want people to feel in my presence and in front of my lens.

2. I HOLD SPACE WITH REVERENCE. When I’m behind the camera, I try to focus more on listening & observing, only directing & guiding where it’s needed. I gauge what I need to do based on each of my client’s personalities & how they feel in the moment.

3. I BELIEVE IN THE SACREDNESS OF BEING SEEN. Not for show, not for a curated feed, but in a real, human way. I want people to look at their photos and feel understood, not styled.

4. I’M NOT HERE TO COMPETE. I’m here to connect. Even if someone doesn’t choose me every time, or ever again, I want our time together to mean something.

5. MY WORK IS A QUIET ACT OF RESISTANCE. Against the demand for perfection, against rush, against artificiality. I’m always inviting people back to themselves.

6. I CREATE COMFORTABLE PLACES. Places where people can exhale. Where they don’t have to prove or perform. They show up with curiosity, not control. Presence, not pressure.

7. I TRUST THE QUIET MOMENTS. I know that real connection doesn’t need to be coaxed - it just needs to be witnessed.

8. I LET PEOPLE BE. In my images, there’s space for softness, for goofiness, for complexity. I don’t chase symmetry or trends - I follow feeling.

9. MY WORK IS ABOUT WHAT’S FELT. Photos that remember stories, echo emotion, & hold what words couldn’t.

10. I’M NOT TRYING TO BE EVERYTHING TO EVERYONE. I’m not for everyone because what I offer isn’t a commodity, but an experience where we choose to slow down & honor the real, messy, and beautiful things that often go unnoticed.

If this sounds like you, let’s create something together. Thanks for following along with me, friend. 🌼
