There are eerie landscapes from Carcosa and the creatures lurking beneath the waters of Lake Hali from “The Demoiselle d’Ys” — a place that blurs the line between reality and illusion, life and death, dreams and madness.
And of course, the King in Yellow himself, rising through a portal above the mystical lake.
Chambers was one of the early writers who influenced young Lovecraft, and I’m completely fascinated by his surreal, imagined worlds.
