Marking Kotaoʼs first solo exhibition in Thailand and Southeast Asia, “Too Much Heaven” features a new body of paintings created especially for the exhibition.
Widely recognized for her slime-covered portraits, Kotao has developed a distinctive painterly practice that explores the sensation of being alive and the physical presence of the body. The exhibition presents her latest works, marking a further evolution of her recent practice.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Kotao will stay in Bangkok to create a large-scale work.
Completed on site, the piece will be presented as part of the exhibition and will serve as one of its highlights.
As Kotaoʼs first solo exhibition in Thailand, combined with the experience of creating a new work during her stay in Bangkok, “Too Much Heaven” marks an important milestone in her artistic journey. We warmly invite you to experience her latest body of work at CURU GALLERY.

Drawing from experiences of emotional restraint, familial expectations, and everyday vulnerability, Yuan creates works that begin with personal narratives and expand into broader reflections on contemporary life. Through soft, childlike imagery and recurring characters—including ponies, rabbits, cats, and dreamlike companions—she constructs spaces where unspoken emotions, memories, and moments of healing can emerge.
Balancing gentleness with emotional depth, her work explores what she describes as a “softness after suffering”: the capacity to remain open, perceptive, and compassionate despite experiences of pressure, silence, and loss. These figures become quiet carriers of resilience, embodying the delicate tension between fragility and strength.
Yuan Ting received her BFA in Fiber Art from China Academy of Art and her MA in Contemporary Art Practice with Distinction from The University of Edinburgh. Recent exhibitions include The Rift of Sunchaser (London and Edinburgh), Trophy at the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh, and Paradise of Chaos at Hospitalfield, Scotland.

Drawing from personal and collective narratives, Oh creates works that exist between tradition and contemporaneity, often examining the ways histories, emotions, and cultural symbols are carried, transformed, and reimagined across time and place. His practice reflects a fluid dialogue between Korean heritage and global contemporary culture, resulting in works that are both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Recent solo exhibitions include Polyculture at Tang Contemporary Art, Bangkok (2025), Elegies: Little Deaths at Stroll Garden, Los Angeles (2024), and Han at Half Gallery, New York (2023). His work has also been featured in exhibitions at Phillips Auction House, Kasmin Gallery, the Asia Culture Center, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and other institutions across Asia and the United States.
Through an evolving visual language that moves across mediums and geographies, Oh continues to explore the complexities of belonging, transformation, and cultural memory.

In a time when uncertainty has become part of everyday life, feelings of quiet loneliness and subtle displacement are no longer personal anomalies—they are shared human experiences.
This body of work explores the idea of Emotional Exile: the condition of carrying our wounds with us, no matter how far we travel in search of refuge. The landscapes depicted are not records of external places, but psychological terrains shaped by memory, perception, and emotion. Nature becomes a screen onto which the inner self is projected.
Set within the fleeting atmosphere of twilight—where light and darkness coexist—these works inhabit the space between comfort and unease, presence and absence. Illuminated signals, distant moons, passing lightning, and glowing eyes emerge like emotional afterimages: traces that remain long after the moment has passed.
Using traditional East Asian pigments, gouache, and acrylic on raw canvas, layered washes blur the boundaries between form and feeling. What appears familiar becomes slightly distant, inviting viewers to enter their own memories, longings, and moments of quiet reflection.
A landscape may offer refuge, but it can also reveal the emotions we carry with us.
