This is an amazing photo for me. The two musicians who I have most admired over the last 45+ years caught in one photo at a Roches' gig. I have cropped out Robert Fripp who is just visible on the right of the picture (apologies to him). David Bowie's talent needs no explanation - but lurking behind him, almost in his shadow is Peter Hammill who, like Bowie, made a flawless collection of albums from 1969 through to 1980. And like Bowie, perhaps after a dip in the 80s, has made some of his finest music in the last 20 years.
Tim and I go back a long way (about 200 yards in a North Easterly direction). He helped me with the release of the first Terry Stamp album 'Bootlace Johnnie and the 99s' that I produced, as well as introducing me to Judy Dyble (and that turned out well I would have thought). This is his new album 'Flowers at the Scene' that features a cameo of me on one song as world-famous string arranger (pretty good for someone who doesn't know a quaver from a monster munch). It features multiple Fran Broadys of the Band of Perfect Strangers, doing her thing beautifully, as always, with much aplomb and lashings of bow rosin.

Apart from the aforesaid hamfisted attempt at string arrangement the album has much to recommend it, fine songs, a lovely vinyl gatefold sleeve* and Tim's ubiquitous avant-croon. Oh...and it is mixed by Steven Wilson (don't forget to tell your son that Fran!). And finally, it features a stellar nursery of musicians including (amongst others) the great Peter Hammill, Dylan Howe, Kevin Godley, Andy Partridge as well as the very talented and all round good-bloke David Longdon of Big Big Train. *it is also available in many other inferior formats.
