Re Sunscreen
A simply one is sudocreme. Works well.
Try it! It blocks the suns rays as its zinc based and thick, it's sticky...Otherwise we use commercial factor high-as-possible sunscreen. What do you guys use?

Wild Weekends are here for 2026!!
This lovely group are heading out alongside the disused railway line originally from Broughton to Coniston to join tracks and bridleways into the hills of Broughton Fell.
This is the baby sister to our Cumbrian Classic Riding Holiday! We do still have vacancies on that...get in touch! An eight day route around the Lake District National Park encompassing Eskdale, Wasdale, Dunnerdale...but more on that later! 😀
These lovely riders on our Wild Weekend are here for two days, a real treat, good weather, beautiful riding, a fell day and a beach day!

Day Three (yes theres more - it was one of those days!). As our ride headed off on a LONG day and as it became obvious Drummer was a little lame our route clashed with the Fred Whitton Cycling race.
Ye gods! These guys SHIFT and are silent predators to horses unfamiliar with bicycles! EEEEK I won't lie there were a few whimpers and squeaks - a few palpitations!!
All our horses, though, were quite simply superstars. The cyclists, one and all, were wonderful giving the horses space snd even slowing down for them. THANK YOU ALL!

The Fred Whitton Challenge is a charity cycling event held annually in the Lakes, in aid of MacMillan, Cumbria's Air Ambulances, the Mountain Rescue and other cycling projects - over 2 million pounds so far! Named after Fred Whitton, secretary of the Lakes Road Club, who died of cancer at the age of 50 in 1998, the event started in 1999 and is held annually.
It starts/finishes in Grasmere, is 114 miles long, with 11,500 ft elevation gain.
2,500 riders take part in the challenge!
The route heads for Ambleside, heads over Kirkstone Pass, descends through Glenridding, along Ullswater, before heading to Keswick. It then climbs over Honister to Buttermere before climbing over Newlands Pass. From here, the route heads over Whinlatter Pass before the riders head south down the Western Lake District.
Finally, the route turns eastward towards the finish, taking riders through Eskdsle - where we saw them - before crossing the famous Hardknott and Wrynose passes (at 100 miles) past Blea Tarn, through Langdale to the finish in Grasmere.
Not everyone finishes - its a world wide Challenge.🚴♂️🚴

Then on Day Three he showed slightly lame an hour into the ride.
No heat.
No swelling
No obvious tendon or ligament damage
Just 'off'.
Given the terrain we had to pull him off - he was utterly unimpressed.
Sweet boy Lennie stepped into big shoes and was a star, meantime we nurtured Drummer back here for heat, swelling, anything...
A week later he trotted up sound on concrete snd proceeded to fly down the beach like a hooligan.
Maybe we'll never know....
He's such a superstar 😍 🧡
Now, folks, if you have any ideas, you horsey peeps out there, let me know!
And before I hear the schrieks of 'why didnt you get the vet out IMMEDIATELY' alongside yelps of horror and accusations of unlimited cruelty its because between us in the yard we have over 100 years of equine experience and, as he recovered so rapidly, we suspect he stood on a rock and bruised his sole, given the terrain he had been riding over.
It can happen...
He's perfectly fine!

Where do we ride? Over our private farmland, the fields/fells at Baystone Bank Farm. Super views, the Duddon Estuary, Whicham Valley, the Coniston Mountains, and Black and White Combe; many photographic opportunities, we'll take pics for you!
Riding Experiences: are in small groups.
Size of group?
One Hour: Max 4
Two Hour: Max 6
Suitable for? All levels of experience and abilities, offered as either novice level hacks OR intermediate OR experienced only groups.
Rides include: free equipment/tuition, the safety briefing; our expertise/time taken in mounting/dismounting - all part of the Experience 😁
One Hour Heavy Horse Riding Experience Suitable for: beginner-novice riders, ideal for older folk or children. A very steady pace. No fast paces on this! £70pp
Two Hour Farm Riding Experience
Suitable for: most folk, total beginners- very experienced riders but it's carefully managed in small groups according to experience levels.
*After assessment by our skilled Ride Leaders-safety first- you can be offered faster paces on this, up to gallop - providing we see that high level of competance. Ground conditions can vary, so paces offered change if eg wet/slippery. £90pp
