📜 Between 1885 and 1887, a fierce persecution swept through the Kingdom of Buganda. Charles Lwanga and his companions—many of them teenagers and young men serving in the royal court—refused to abandon Christ, even when faced with torture and death.

At only about 25 years old, Charles Lwanga became a leader, catechist, and protector of younger Christians. His courage reminds us that holiness is not measured by age, position, or influence, but by our willingness to remain faithful to God no matter the cost.
⛪ Their sacrifice was formally recognized when Pope St. Paul VI canonized the 22 Catholic Uganda Martyrs on October 18, 1964, during the Second Vatican Council. In his homily, he proclaimed that they added “another page to the martyrology—the Church’s roll of honor,” a witness that would forever enrich the history of Christianity in Africa. In a remarkable gesture of Christian unity, he also honored the Anglican martyrs who “confronted death in the name of Christ,” recognizing their shared witness to the Gospel.
Today, millions of pilgrims journey to Namugongo each year, where the blood of these martyrs became the seed of a flourishing Church.

Philip devoted himself to helping people grow closer to God. He often visited hospitals, cared for the sick, and spent long hours teaching children and guiding young people. His joyful personality attracted many followers, and he became known as the “Apostle of Rome.” He believed that holiness could be achieved through love, humility, and joy rather than through strict severity.
In 1548, Philip founded the Confraternity of the Holy Trinity, which cared for pilgrims and the needy. He was ordained a priest in 1551 and became famous as a confessor and spiritual guide. Many people sought his advice because of his wisdom, compassion, and sense of humor.
To encourage prayer and learning, Philip established the Congregation of the Oratory, a community of priests dedicated to preaching, prayer, and spiritual formation. Through this congregation, he promoted sacred music, discussions on faith, and charitable works.
St. Philip Neri experienced deep spiritual gifts, including intense love of God and mystical experiences. Despite his popularity, he remained humble and always encouraged others to trust in God’s mercy.
He died on 26 May 1595 in Rome. In 1622, he was canonized a saint by the Catholic Church. Today, St. Philip Neri is remembered as a joyful saint who inspired countless people through his faith, charity, humility, and love for God. His life continues to teach that true holiness can be lived with happiness and a generous heart.

In this blogging, I grew in a devotion to the Roman martyrs through the Roman Station Church pilgrimage during Lent. We go to the most ancient churches of Rome and to the tombs of martyrs, visiting a new churches every day of Lent.
I wanted to share this devotion with you, so I jumped onto social media in 2021 to take you with me.
From this work and devotion on, I began working on the social media team for - and continue to post for - to showcase the baroque beauty of Salzburg.
I’ve seen the most beautiful things in Rome, her most beautiful liturgies, the most stunning altars, the most peaceful chapels. It’s too good of a treasure to keep to myself.
