Subotica, Serbia
Grown in the Subotica wine region in northern Serbia, this 2024 Kadarka is a raw expression of traditional winemaking on the Pannonian Plain.
Here, vineyards are rooted in deep, prehistoric sands left behind by a long-vanished sea.
Oszkár Maurer cherishes this unique terroir through a radical, hands-off approach, tending vines that have been left unpruned for the last four years. This collision of sand soil and untamed viticulture sets the stage for a remarkable wine.
While Kadarka is traditionally known for a light, luminous ruby hue, this one sit beautifully in the glass with a deeper, more resolute purple core.
The nose is where the unpruned vines and the sandy soil achieve a sort of viticultural nuclear fusion, colliding to release a massive amount of aromatic energy.
Deep, untamed bouquet of vibrant cherry, wild bramble, and fresh cranberry, backed by a savory, almost resinous wild-herb character, lifted by soaring high notes of wild rose and crushed violet, keeping the entire profile incredibly buoyant.
If the nose is a display of viticultural nuclear fusion, the palate is a masterclass in fluid dynamics.
The promise of the aromatics is fully realized in a duet of intense fruitiness and beautiful acids, supported by a rich, dense mid-palate.
The tannins are undeniably present, but rather than creating harsh, astringent friction,
they achieve a state of zero-drag viscosity, framing the wine with a velvety texture that
glides effortlessly.
The aging in 500-liter old barrels allowed the wine to breathe and round out over 10 months without masking the pristine fruit behind oaky vanilla or toast. As the wine crosses the palate, the hallmark acidity of the Subotica sand asserts itself, cutting
through the richness of the late-harvest fruit and leaving the mouth watering.

Serbia, Subotica
This wine strikes a fine balance of juicy lightness and structural complexity, making it an effortlessly engaging bottle with a subtle wild edge that never overtakes its pure, vibrant fruity character.
It captures the sandy terroir of Subotica, showcasing lively aromas of sun-ripened apricot, apple, quince, and fresh gooseberry. On the palate, it unfolds with layers of juicy melon, white fruits, and subtle baking spices like ginger and nutmeg.
A grippy skin-contact texture and refreshing acidity create a dynamic interplay, where ripe apricot takes center stage, harmoniously complemented by an intriguing fresh, leafy, slightly savory baseline of jasmine tea. The finish is long, energetic, and distinctly mineral.
Crafted as a blend of indigenous varieties Grašac, Slankamenka, Bakator, and Ezerjó. The wine undergoes a short skin-maceration before resting for 9 months in 500-liter used barrels, building a gorgeous, rounded texture without sacrificing its raw energy.
The Closure Story
Oszkár Maurer’s radical commitment to sustainability shines through in every detail. To minimize the winery’s environmental footprint, traditional plastic capsules, metal foils, and wax closures have been entirely replaced with environmentally friendly clay mud sourced directly from the very vineyard where the grapes are grown.
This innovative approach not only protects the cork but deepens the physical connection between the bottle and its origins. It’s hard to get any closer to terroir in the comfort of your dining room than this.
As Maurer puts it: “While we may not be able to change the world alone, we can change ourselves. Our planet is a precious gift, and it’s crucial that we take care of it.”

Serbia, Fruška Gora
A deep, alluring ruby in the glass with a rim just beginning to show hints of garnet evolution.
On the nose, this vintage marks a clear departure from simple fresh fruit, defined by emerging secondary and tertiary layers.
Complex aromas of dried fig, autumn leaves and truffle intertwine with a savoury, spicy backbone of black tea and sandalwood.
Lifting these deeper notes is a cooling herbal freshness with hints of mint and sage that keeps the whole profile alive and electric.
While Kadarka is typically celebrated for a lighter, more delicate structure, this vintage carries a noticeably bolder, more robust frame, reflecting the blistering 2022 summer. Yet, it never feels heavy. It is full-bodied and enveloping while retaining that signature Sagmeister agile style, thanks to a core of freshness that cuts through the richness with precision.
The palate moves through dried cherry and savoury umami notes, a complexity that is a direct result of an extended 30-month élevage. Gentle micro-oxygenation over that time has rounded the texture and transformed primary berry fruit into sophisticated spices and faintly nutty, oxidative marks.
True to Sagmeister’s low-intervention ethos, this was bottled under a waning moon in Sagittarius, a cosmic timing meant to lock in the wine's vibrant energy while favouring long-term stability.
Whether you buy into the biodynamic calendar or not, the wine in the glass proves the point. Bold, complex, and continuously unfolding, it is a masterclass in how a wine can carry profound depth yet remain thrillingly alive.

Monemvasia
Greece, Paros
On the windswept island of Paros, nestled in the heart of the Cyclades, Nicolas and Marie-Astrid Bourget have found their calling. They deeply embraced the island's ancient viticultural heritage, establishing Domaine Myrsini to craft wines that are a pure, respectful expression of the Aegean.
Fotinos, meaning "luminous" in Greek, is their radiant ode to the island’s signature white grape, Monemvasia.
While Monemvasia was historically famous for the medieval wines exported from the fortress port of Monemvasia, this unique grape now finds its home, and is almost solely cultivated, on the island of Paros.
Visually, the wine is striking, pouring a deep gold with copper reflections.
On the nose, aromas of lemon peel and mandarin mingle with the fleshy appeal of apricot and quince.
But the true soul of the wine lies in its savory edge, with notes of wild fennel, crushed thyme, and hay that transport you straight to the Mediterranean coast.
On the palate, while the acidity is low and gentle, the wine is far from flabby.
It is driven by a salty, mineral backbone and a medium body that coats the mouth.
Flavors of pear and chamomile tea unfold, leading to a dry, herbaceous finish that is clean and composed.

Franken, Germany
This is a wine of vibrant tension, tactile depth, and electric freshness.
Far from a simple, fruity white, it’s a serious, textural skin-contact wine for those who like their glass to talk back.
Spontaneous skin fermentation and élevage in used oak barrels shift the profile away from primary fruit toward savory, layered complexity.
Christian Ottenbreit handles controlled oxidation with precision, building structure and grip while preserving clarity and focus.
The vines cling to the steep slopes of Obernbreit, rooted in muschelkalk (shell limestone). These ancient, chalky soils, remains of a prehistoric sea, lend the wine its signature spice and a vibrating, salty minerality that carries long through the finish.
Cloudy and alive, the color moves between deep amber and copper. The nose is complex and tempting: quince and dried pear lead the way, followed by dried hay, wild thyme, and gentle herbal tones. With air, deeper savory notes unfold, salted almond, sourdough crust, and a slight touch of flinty smoke.
The 2024 vintage shows piercing acidity that slices easily through a creamy, lees-aged
texture.
Bone-dry and precise, it finishes long with grapefruit pith, walnut skins, and that unmistakable limestone salinity.

🍇 Lipolist / Hárslevelű
📍 Serbia, Fruška Gora
Born on the ancient volcanic slopes of the Fruška Gora in northern Serbia, the Sagmeister LH Zero 2023 is an amber wine defined by resilience and intensity.
The vintage was shaped by a dramatic growing season, characterized by a scorching August heatwave followed by severe storms.
While these chaotic conditions drastically reduced the yield, the grapes that survived were imbued with exceptional energy and aromatic concentration.
To allow this intensity to settle, the wine was given time to evolve with 16 months of élevage.
This patient maturation rounded the structure and allowed a deep savory complexity to emerge naturally.
In the glass, the wine presents a hazy, intense amber-golden hue. The nose is expressive and aromatic, opening with floral layers of acacia, linden blossom, and wild rose, supported by the ripe, tropical warmth of mango.
On the palate, the concentration from the low yields is unmistakable. While there is a bright foundation of citrus fruit, apple, and quince, the long barrel aging introduces a sophisticated herbal undercurrent. Distinct notes of ginger, bay leaf, sage, and a crack of white pepper add a savory depth that balances the fruit.
The experience concludes with a remarkable texture and a finish that vividly recalls English orange marmalade—a persistent interplay of citrus zest, pithy structure, and ripe fruit character that lingers long after the last sip.
A meditative, gastronomic wine that reveals the deeper side of Serbian natural winemaking.

Mantilaria, Vaftra
Greece, Paros
The name "Nees Rizes" (New Roots) comes straight from the heart.
It reflects the Bourget family's deep personal pledge to lay down their own foundations on the island of Paros, embracing the ancient roots of its viticulture to ground a new family legacy.
The soul of this wine comes from a patchwork of small plots scattered across Paros, with vine ages ranging between 50 and 150 years.
These vines are ungrafted, anchored in history by their indigenous roots.
Most plots benefit from a northern exposition, protecting the grapes from
the fiercest heat and ensuring the wine retains freshness.
In the glass, the wine pours a deep ruby, veiled in a gentle haze.
The nose is engaging and layered, opening with a burst of blackberries,
red cherries, and violet, before evolving into fig, prune, and dried blackberry. A distinct savory edge follows—dried tobacco leaf, black olives, and a crack of black pepper.
On the palate, it is smooth and comfortable at 12.5% alcohol.
The northern exposition preserves balance; the acidity remains soft and tannins are gentle.
The finish is persistent, leaving a lingering impression of dark fruit and savory spice.
This wine is defined by good balance. It manages to be complex—juggling
fresh fruit, dried fruit, and savory richness—remaining easy to drink while preserving a wild edge.

Black Muscat of Tyrnavos
Greece
On the southern foothills of Mount Olympus, where Dionysus’s wild gift flourishes and Oreads - mountain nymphs scatter the morning dew, the Papras family has been farming organically since the early ’90s.
Papras – Oreads 2024 is made from Black Muscat of Tyrnavos, fermented dry and left unfiltered.
Visually, this wine is a showstopper, glowing pale ruby with a halo of Olympian sunset pink.
Swirl it and a flamboyant spray burst forth – jasmine, orange blossom and wild rose petals, the unmistakable signature of Black Muscat.
On the palate it is bright and cheerful.
Wild strawberries, raspberries and tart pomegranate mingle under brisk mid-level acidity.
Just when you think it cannot get more fun, a sly pinch of black pepper and Mediterranean herb lifts the finish, adding extra spring to each sip.
Despite its carnival of aromas, the wine remains refreshing and effortlessly drinkable.
A joyful bottle made for easy evenings, shared plates and zero pretense.
