Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) support healthy habitats, marine life, fisheries, and local livelihoods. Canada has the world's longest coastline. Not only does protecting our ocean benefits us at home, but it also makes a difference in global ocean health.
That's why CPAWS recently hosted an event on Parliament Hill, where coastal voices like Barb's could be heard by those who make the biggest decisions for Canada's ocean.

Yesterday, the federal government announced its Nature Strategy. With $3.8 billion committed through 2030, this plan recognizes what we’ve been saying all along: nature isn’t a luxury; it’s essential infrastructure.
Here’s what this means:

🌊 Progress toward protecting 30% of land, ocean, and freshwater by 2030

A new CPAWS study shows that every $1 spent on protected and conserved areas (PCAs) generates $3.62 in visitor spending, creating jobs, incomes, and tax revenue nationwide.📈
