Each wing is made of five layers: first is the transparent acetate artwork, which is then sandwiched between two pieces of "leading" laser cut from very thin acrylic. 3D printing would be a great option for a smaller project, but I am boo boo the fool and these are huge. Finally I filled each gap on both sides with 's Amazing UV Resin (the same one we use in our workshops!), in order to bulk out the glass and get that slight variation between each piece. In this shot you can definitely see the difference between the flat art with acrylic, vs the resin filled version!
A huge thank you to for this collaboration, and be sure to check out the full length video for more instructions and pattern templates!

As promised, the detailed tutorial on how to make a tearaway cosplay using weed eater cord! This closure method is super fast and keeps seams tightly together until it’s time to tear away. However this can be tricky to design around, which I’ll talk about more in the next video! For now though this is part 1: the basics.
💗Watch the cosplay contest performance I made this for in our pinned reels! 💗
✨ Supplies:
✨ Lawn mower / weed whacker cord
✨ Hook and eye tape
✨ Pliers
✨ Scissors
✨ Hot glue or clear tape (optional)
1️⃣ Prepare your tear-away garment by hemming all edges where the tear away closure will be. In this example, the sides and shoulders.
2️⃣ Measure the length of each the hemmed closure edge. Cut a matching length from the eyes strip of your hook and eye tape (don’t forget to account for both halves of your costume). Fold the tape in half along the metal loops, press, and sew flat.
3️⃣ Place one of your pliers at the base of the metal loop and use the other to twist the loop 90 degrees. Twist every loop on the strip.
4️⃣ Sew the tape along every hemmed edge where your garments connect, aligning the loops 1 - 2mm away from the edge. Don't let the loops stick out past the edge or you’ll have a visible gap where the halves meet.
5️⃣ Measure and cut a generous amount of weed eater cord for each side. If desired, tape or hot glue the end of the cord into a circular handle.
6️⃣ Place the wrong sides of your garment together and pinch the matching channels together until the loops are aligned. Starting at the side hips or where where your pull handles wi be, begin threading the cord through the loops, alternating between the two sides like a zipper. Continue until you’ve reached the end of the side channel tape.
7️⃣ If your cosplay has a shoulder closure, jump to the outer edge of the shoulder and thread the same cord through these channels as well. Pull the cord tight. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the other side of your garment.
8️⃣ Try your cosplay on and trim the ends of the cord to 4”-6”. Leave the ends loose and hide under your collar. When it’s time to tear away, firmly pull the handles.
This book focuses on the planning skills and decision making process that plays such a huge role in our own creations - stepping you through the "whys" and "hows" needed to tackle elaborate, multipart cosplay ballgowns. A one-stop shop, this 128 page read touches on all the core components of the ballgowns we love, all in one place: skirts, corsets, bodices, hoopskirts, petticoats, and embellishments! Ballgowns come in all shapes and sizes so this is not a one off pattern instruction book. Instead, learn the important fundamentals that you can apply to any future project: how to evaluate and modify patterns, draft skirts, assemble corsets, choose undergarments, design details, and how to elevate both your creative and construction skills!
Folks who pre-order will receive their choice of a new 4x6 mini print or tutorial that's being printed just for this launch, plus a bonus, oft-requested tutorial: how to construct an open hoop skirt!
Also as a big THANK YOU to everyone who's supported our books so far: if you've bought all three of our books at any time, just mention it when you place your order and we'll include a CBC logo sticker! 💗
