Some stories don’t need magic to feel extraordinary.
This is a personal portfolio cover concept inspired by the incredible life of Jane Goodall— a scientist, conservationist, and storyteller whose work transformed the way we understand our relationship with the natural world.
As I continue developing my portfolio, I’ve been exploring lyrical nonfiction picture books and how illustration can evoke wonder, emotion, and curiosity while staying grounded in true stories. My goal with this piece was to create a cover that feels both timeless and inviting, celebrating a young Jane Goodall’s curiosity, courage, and remarkable connection with chimpanzees and the forests she came to know so well.
I’m grateful to be represented by and to continue growing as a children’s book illustrator through both publishing projects and personal portfolio work like this.
I’d love to hear what you think!
🌿 Personal portfolio piece.

The secret is finally out! I am absolutely thrilled to share the cover for Priya’s Not-So-Perfect Brand-New Outfit, written by the wonderful and published by! 🎨✨
This beautiful story is stitched straight from Srividhya’s own childhood memories of growing up with sibling hand-me-downs. It follows Priya, who is fed up with old clothes and saves up for a perfect, brand-new pavadai—only to learn that “new” isn’t always better, and “perfect” doesn’t really exist.
As an illustrator, there is nothing quite like capturing the texture, color, and emotion of a story rooted in culture and childhood nostalgia. Bringing Priya’s world, her family, and her colorful wardrobe to life—from traditional pavadais to casual tees—has been an absolute creative joy.
Thank you, Srividhya, for trusting me with your memories and for your incredibly kind words, and thank you to the wonderful team at Capstone!
🗓️ Mark your calendars! Priya arrives on bookshelves January 1, 2027.

When not in her studio, Vaishnavi can be found trekking in the mountains or getting lost in a good fantasy, thriller novel. Her adventurous spirit inspires her creativity, allowing her to bring imaginative worlds to life through her illustrations.
One of the most spectacular festivals in Kerala — with beautifully decorated elephants, traditional music, and breathtaking fireworks.
This illustration is from the children’s book Alisha Goes to Kerala by, where Alisha experiences the colors, sounds, and joy of this incredible celebration.
Illustrating this scene was so much fun because of all the vibrant details and energy of the festival!

I had the pleasure of illustrating The Frog Prince, a fun modern adaptation by Marilee Joy Mayfield.
From a golden ball falling into a pond to a very persistent frog showing up at the castle, this story is full of humor and an important reminder about keeping promises.
Seeing my illustrations printed in a real book never stops feeling magical. 💛
If you spot it somewhere, send me pictures!
Did you know Rapunzel was actually named after a plant with purple flowers? 🌸
Rapunzel is the classic tale of a little girl with impossibly long hair — deeply loved by her parents, guarded by a not-so-kind witch, and eventually found by a prince.
This beautiful modern adaptation by bestselling author Marilee Joy Mayfield adds so much heart and richness to the story, and I had the absolute joy of bringing it to life through my illustrations.
Seeing my artwork printed, bound, and finally out in the world never stops feeling surreal. Grateful for this journey and for every little reader who will turn these pages 🤍✨
I illustrated Sticks and Stones, a winning entry in the North Street Book Prize, now featured on Winning Writers.
From the very first sketch, I knew this story needed softness and strength living on the same page. My goal was to visually capture what it feels like to be misunderstood — and then slowly show that quiet, powerful shift toward self-acceptance.
Every expression, every posture, every colour choice was intentional. I wanted children who see themselves in this story — especially those who feel different, neurodivergent, or “too much” — to feel held by the artwork before they even read the words.
As an illustrator, I care deeply about how images shape identity. Sometimes a child doesn’t need a lesson — they just need to see someone like them existing fully and confidently on the page.
I’m incredibly proud to have contributed visually to a story that’s now being recognised at this level.
Grateful. Honoured. And very happy this one is out in the world. 🤍
