What I didn’t always think about is how. Alcohol turns into a toxic substance in your body that can damage your DNA over time. That damage adds up.
Before cancer, I was drinking 2–3 binge days a week. Now, I rarely drink so maybe once a month and I don’t rely on it the way I used to.

I’ve been pretty self-conscious about my stomach since my right hemicolectomy. The scars, the stretch marks… it’s not something I’m used to showing.
But this is also what surviving looks like.
In honor of Colon Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to share this because colon cancer isn’t just something that affects “older people,” and it doesn’t always come with obvious warning signs. Mine led to surgery and a lot of changes I didn’t expect.
If you’ve been putting off getting checked, or ignoring symptoms because you think you’re “too young” — don’t. Seriously. Pay attention to your body.
This is a part of my story now, and I’m learning to be okay with that.
If this helps even one person catch something early or feel less alone, it’s worth it.
