Returning to the studios brought back some special memories for him: “What a throwback to my time at Codarts! Entering the studio each day, I could feel the eagerness of all these beautiful people to move and create, along with a youthful sense of endless possibilities. We are very happy to welcome trombonist, composer, arranger, educator and creative producer Efe Erdem to our Jazz faculty.
A familiar face at Codarts already, Efe now joins our trombone section as a permanent teacher. And he brings a wealth of international experience with him - from North Sea Jazz, Montreux Jazz Festival and Blue Note Tokyo to collaborations with artists including Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Roy Hargrove, Snarky Puppy and KNOWER.
Efe is also a Codarts alumnus: he graduated from our Jazz programme in 2012, having studied with Bart van Lier and Ilja Reijngoud.
For Efe, teaching is all about curiosity, exploration and finding your own voice:
“Music has always been about exploration for me. I believe musicians grow by staying curious, crossing boundaries and remaining open to different sounds and influences. As a teacher, I want to help students trust their instincts, develop their own artistic voice and shape an identity that truly feels like their own.”

In this short film, five young talents reflect on what 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘖𝘯 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘷𝘦 has meant to them and how it has helped them grow into professional dancers.
The annual touring programme 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘖𝘯 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘷𝘦 is a joint initiative by Holland Dance Festival and Codarts Rotterdam that builds a bridge between education and professional life. Talented young dancers from Codarts Rotterdam work with world-class choreographers to create an energetic performance that tours across the Netherlands.
The programme is supported by the Droom en Daad Foundation.
