Though Bumper Cars on Ice isnโt a dog-friendly activity, you can definitely watch at the dog-friendly Bryant Park Winter Village. Cocoโs dad stayed with Coco while I tried out my bumper cars driving skills. Itโs so much fun! The inflatable bumper cars glide over the ice controlled by 2 joysticks. You can bump your fellow riders all you want and spin until youโre too dizzy to drive. The only rule is not to bump into the divider between the bumper cars and ice skaters. Would you try Bumper Cars on Ice?
The Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park IS dog-friendly ๐ถ. Aside from the famous 17,000 square foot outdoor ice skating rink โธ๏ธ and Bumper Cars on Ice with a view of the Empire State Building, thereโs curling lanes ๐ฅ, a food hall with a lot of delicious food and drink options, heated igloos and more.
The Bryant Park Winter Village is a pawfect outdoor option for dining with your dog during a winter trip to NYC. Coco adorably also kept an eye on me while I rode the Bumper Cars on Ice.

If you missed it, I shared on Story that Coco had gotten her paw stepped on pretty hard at the park Monday evening. It was an accident, but she cried in pain for a few minutes and was holding her paw up. After a few minutes, she did go back to wanting to play with her friends but she would still cry walking on it.
I took Coco to her vet first thing Tuesday morning. She had x-rays. Thankfully nothing was broken and the tendon showed in tact. Just some swelling in the tissue showed up.
Coco got an injection for pain, is taking medication for a week and - much to her displeasure - has to rest with no running, no ball and no playing with her friends for a week.
If only Coco knew just how many messages you all sent her wishing her a speedy recovery. More than I could even keep up with. So enjoy Coco giving you a woo as a thank you! ๐ซถ๐ผ

Le Cirque de Gavarnie is one of very few routes that dogs are allowed in the Parc national des Pyrรฉnรฉes. But luckily this 7.9 kilometer round trip hike to the Grande Cascade de Gavarnie is also one of the most gorgeous in the Pyrรฉnรฉes.
Though it was an absolutely freezing cold day with a high of just -5ยฐC (23ยฐF), the Cirque de Gavarnie hike was perfect for my first hike post ankle ligament reconstruction surgery. The 7.9 kilometer out and back hike only gains 226 meters of elevation
The entire valley gives you a striking view of the Grande Cascade de Gavarnie and walls and peaks rising up to 3000 meters high, but reaching the Hรดtel du Cirque et de la Cascade for the up close view of the 423 meter high waterfall - higher than the Eiffel Tower - is well worth going the distance.
The Grande Cascade de Gavarnie is impressive, even frozen in winter. The 10,000 year old cascade waterfall is the tallest in mainland France and one of the tallest in Europe. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

It was a sโmore-t move to open a NYC inspired gourmet sโmores hot chocolate cart. owner and creator Julien Lejeune was inspired to create his own gourmet hot chocolate recipes with toasted marshmallow on the cup rim after visiting NYC, and decided we absolutely needed this concept in France.
We couldnโt agree more! We never made it to the original Glace in NYC to try to the viral sโmores hot chocolate. But we made sure to track down Orium during our visit to Toulouse.
Orium offers homemade chocolat chaud with a toasted marshmallow rim and topped with a generous scoop of homemade chantilly cream and various toppings.
I tried the tiramisu and dog dad tried specaloos. Both were delicious! Coco definitely approved of the homemade chantilly cream.

Iโm a 45 year old American from Pennsylvania, went to UNLV and lived in Las Vegas. I spent 6 years living in Phoenix before moving to Italy in 2009 with my Ragdoll cat, Angel, and my mixed breed dog, Emma.
I worked remotely from Italy for a university back in Arizona for 5 years, while also building a travel blog (focused on luxury, wine & gastronomy, and soft adventure) from hobby to full time career.
In 2015 I left my university job, and focused on my blog full time. In 2016 I moved from Italy to Bordeaux, France. Meant to only be a year long stint while the US Air Force took dog dad to South Korea for a year, I fell in love with Bordeaux and found the place that finally felt like I fit.
Spoiler alert, but I ended up staying in Bordeaux. Dog dad was less than 3 years away from retirement after 20 years of service. I started a second blog focused on Bordeaux and the Nouvelle Aquitaine region, while hopping back and forth between Bordeaux and Cambridge, England where dog dad was living. And in 2019 dog dad retired, and we bought an apartment of our very own in Bordeaux.
Coco is a now 5 year old Samoyed girl from Bourgogne, France.
I met and first discovered the Samoyed breed in my neighborhood in Italy, after googling โfluffy white dog that looks like a polar bearโ. It was a while (more than 3 years) after Emma passed that I felt ready for another dog, but I knew I wanted a Samoyed.
All my research about Samoyeds and following several on Instagram could never prepare me for life with a Samoyed. They are hilarious, high energy, loud, loving little assholes who will steal your heart with the Sammy smile and wrap you around their little demanding paws.

๐ We most frequently travel with a big dog by car. Since dogs over 8kg (including the carrier) canโt fly in cabin on commercial flights, road trips are now we travel to most of our destinations.
We most often travel with our own car, but do need to rent cars occasionally., and are some of the most pet-friendly car rental companies with no additional pet-fees (unless you return the car excessively dirty) and no restrictions on how your pet travels in their rental cars.
โด๏ธ We use car ferries to travel to islands like Malta, Corsica and Sardinia. is one of our favorite ferry companies, making long journeys comfortable with pet-friendly cabins. Some other pet-friendly ferries include,,, and.
๐A lot of Western Europe is very well connected by train and dogs of all sizes can typically ride trains in countries like France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and the UK. Pet policies like if a pet ticket is required and if your dog on a leash must be muzzled vary from country to country and even by train company, so always very the pet policy for every leg of the train trip.
๐ We use all forms of public transportation to get around cities. Public transportation pet policies vary greatly from city to city, so donโt always expect youโll be able to use public transport.
๐ Occasionally we need to use taxis or car services to get around, such as getting to/from a train station or airport with luggage. offers Uber Pet in a number of cities, but we find that itโs not always the most reliable. We like G7 in Paris, which allows you to book a pet-friendly taxi. In NYC, regular taxis will take pets at their discretion or you have pet-friendly services like. We have also used, a car service available in over 50 countries, and offers a pet-friendly option.

Your dog doesnโt have to be a small dog to travel with them. Though obviously much easier when you can fly all over the world with small dogs in the cabin, donโt leave your big dogs behind. Plan that road trip! ๐๐ถ
